Ford’s 2015 Mustang fakes engine noises using digital audio technology

DigitalSpy.com reports that Ford has admitted to using digital audio technology to enhance the engine noises of its 2015 Mustang.

The vehicle’s EcoBoost engine produces a muted sound compared to the four-cylinder models of old, but the automaker has devised a system to provide drivers with a vintage aural experience.

“With the EcoBoost engine we have both active noise cancellation and we also amplify the existing engine sound order,” Mustang chief engineer Dave Perciak told Car Magazine.

“We don’t create an artificial sound; we don’t pluck one off the shelf; we bring in the real sound, process it, and play it through the car’s speakers.
