Music industry leaders push recording studio incentive

Tennessean.com reports that seeking to stem the tide of recording studios shuttering and jobs vanishing, a group of influential music industry executives and the local chapter of The Recording Academy have pitched state officials on an economic incentive program for film, television and video game scoring work.
While it has been a bleak decade for professional recording studios, Tennessee is actually seeing growth in the niche area of video game scoring. Because of its right-to-work status, deep bench of talented musicians and the availability of large recording rooms, Tennessee has lured work away from California, the traditional home of lucrative video game scoring work.
Representatives from the Nashville and Memphis chapters of The Recording Academy and other stakeholders met with officials in Gov. Bill Haslam’s administration in August to discuss a music production incentive similar to the state’s previous film incentive program.
