Nine Network Using Piksel Video Platform for Live Streaming

Piksel, a provider of video monetization software and solutions, has been chosen by the Nine Network of Public Media, PBS member station KETC-TV in St Louis, to enable the online broadcast and live streaming of the station’s local programing for the first time with the Piksel Video Platform.

pikselConsumers are increasingly demanding video content to be delivered anytime, anywhere, and on a multitude of devices. When content owners put significant investment behind producing their programs, it no longer makes sense to have them accessible from the TV set only, when technology can now carry them to people wherever they are. In order to realize the full potential of its content and keep up with a rapidly changing media landscape, the Nine Network is working with Piksel to deliver compelling OTT experiences of the same high standard broadcast quality that viewers have come to expect.

“We selected Piksel because of their ability to provide round-the-clock support to ensure seamless integration with our existing broadcast infrastructure at minimal additional expense,” the Nine Network’s Information Technology Director, David Thiele. “By implementing the Piksel Video Platform, we are extending our reach considerably simply by broadcasting live content over the internet.”

To advance its strategy to provide content on multiple platforms, the Nine Network will use the flexible Piksel Video Platform to stream live local content via web browser, on desktop, and on mobile devices. The solution also integrates the Nine Network’s closed captioning feed into the online broadcast player, thereby liberating its video content and making it available to a wider audience.

“Our viewer-centric approach and deep understanding of broadcast and broadband video solutions enabled us to provide a solution which perfectly met the unique needs of KETC-TV,” said Kevin Joyce, Chief Commercial Officer, Piksel. “The Nine Network is known for its award-winning original programing, like Stay TunedArts America and documentaries that air nationally on PBS stations. That makes us particularly proud to welcome the Nine Network as a customer. This partnership is a great example of an innovative content producer taking exciting steps into the evolving world of digital distribution.”
