Community Health Choice Boosts Archive With Spectra nTier Verde Systems

Community Health Choice has deployed two Spectra nTier Verde systems at two of its Texas sites to more quickly archive and protect member and business records.

“As an HMO, Community Health Choice manages high volumes of member and claims information that must be protected following strict industry regulations, and simultaneously accessed quickly,” says John Coakley, director of information systems, Community Health Choice, Inc. “Spectra Logic’s nTier Verde disk appliances with CommVault Simpana has reduced our data backup process from 31 hours to 1.4 hours – a 95.5 percent time savings. Community can now retrieve files efficiently to provide better, faster care for members.”

Community Health Choice chose to significantly change their backup environment to archive and protect their member and business records more quickly. After a month-long evaluation of several market options, they upgraded to the latest version of CommVault Simpana, allowing them to utilize both the deduplication and replication technologies. They deployed two Spectra nTier Verde systems, one at their main office and one at a nearby disaster recovery site. The two sites are connected with a 100MB connection. The nTier disk-based appliances are configured with a single large disk pool, providing efficient disk usage for their environment.

In addition to CommVault they also deployed Veeam to protect their virtual environment. Veeam uses the same disk pool on Verde as CommVault. This combination of technology increases Community’s data backup by 22 times its previous speed.

“We continue to have great success with Spectra’s disk-based secondary storage systems,” said Spectra Logic’s EVP of worldwide sales an sales operations, Brian Grainger. “With Verde’s affordability, reliability, effortless management and architecture that assures the highest level of data integrity, the technology was built to meet long-term archive and backup needs.”
