Student 'tried to pirate 3D movie with homemade camera' in first case of its kind

The UK’s Mirror.co.uk reports that a film student tried to take a home made camera into a cinema in order to make a 3D pirate copy of blockbuster space film Gravity, a court has heard.

But Ciprian Florea was spotted by an eagle-eyed security guard at Cineworld and arrested, Birmingham Crown Court was told.

Florea, 28, of Hunters Road, Hockley, has denied making and possessing a 3D camera with intent to commit fraud.

It is thought that this is the first case involving someone allegedly attempting to pirate a 3D film in this way, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Sally Cairns, prosecuting, said: “This trial is about piracy, film piracy.

“Specifically the illegal recording of films from cinema screens and then potentially distributing them, showing them, sharing them with others.
