Pac-12 Networks Taps Elemental for Live Streaming, YouTube International Distribution

Pac-12 Networks has formed a partnership with Elemental Technologies to provide live simulcast streaming to its Pac-12 Now TV Everywhere service, as well as the video processing for its YouTube international subscription service.

Each year, Pac-12 Networks will deliver live coverage of 850 sporting events to fans worldwide via television, the internet and mobile devices. In August, Pac-12 Networks expanded its reach to international audiences by creating the first-ever live streaming 24×7 subscription sports channel on YouTube.

“From the very beginning we have been focused on bringing Pac-12 fans closer to their favorite teams by delivering great content 24×7 across various devices. In order to do that we need a vendor like Elemental who has a proven track record and matches our focus on the fan experience,” says David Aufhauser, VP and GM of Pac-12 Digital. “Elemental encoders provide the absolute best-in-class encoding quality and reliability required to satisfy the expectations of passionate Pac-12 fans.”

Elemental software processes TV Everywhere content to Pac-12 Networks Android and iOS apps in six different bitrates ranging from 300Kbps up to 1080p at 5Mbps utilizing Adobe and Apple streaming formats.

In addition, Elemental will be responsible for live streams for the network’s simulcast national channel as well as broadcasts in Los Angeles, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, the Bay Area and the Mountain region, as well as live sporting events and original programming for sports fans in 34 countries via the Pac-12 Networks International YouTube platform. On-demand video and file-based content for Pac-12 Networks also will also rely on Elemental software.

“Pac-12 Networks is one of the top live sports producers in the US,” says Dan Marshall, SVP of worldwide sales for Elemental.  “We are proud to provide this sports leader with our software-defined video solutions to deliver an unbeatable fan experience to subscribers in the US and abroad.”
