Seen on Screen: YouTube to Host Live Super Bowl Halftime Show; Oscar De La Hoya to Offer Spanish-Language Sports Network

YouTube will host a live Super Bowl halftime show to be produced by Collective Digital Studio. The show will be broadcast live on YouTube’s AdBlitz channel on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1.

…Former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya is stepping into the cable network ring. De La Hoya, currently CEO of boxing promotion company Golden Boy Promotions, will look to offer an Spanish-language network targeting fans of combat sports like boxing and mixed martial arts. The Miami-based network will be offered to cable operators as a free video on demand service this spring before transitioning into a fee-based linear basic cable service, according to network executives.

…For the past decade, Spike TV has been a prime destination for combat sports on cable, most recently with Bellator MMA and GLORY kickboxing. Now, Spike is expanding its combat sports roster and is getting into the ring with a monthly primetime boxing series “Premier Boxing Champions.”  The new series will debut Friday, March 13 at 9:00pm ET/PT.

Spike TV has entered into a multi-year agreement to present the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series each month for free on Fridays. The network will create compelling monthly shoulder programming for each fight that will help showcase the next generation of boxing stars and energize the sport’s fan base.

…truTV has ordered a pilot for Shaq Inq. (working title), a workplace comedy loosely based on the wild  business empire of Shaquille O’Neal, who is executive-producing the show. The series is being produced for truTV by Mandalay Sports Media.

This half-hour scripted comedy follows Shaquille O’Neal and the team who runs his sprawling business empire. The offbeat, yet capable, group juggles the mayhem of managing Shaq’s existing products and endorsements while implementing his latest batch of eccentric and oftentimes brilliant business ideas. But while they’re all working towards the same goal, each employee is constantly jockeying for the power and recognition to make the big guy proud…
