GolTV Acquires Broadcast Rights to The Portuguese Cup Through 2016

GolTV, the bilingual soccer network, has acquired the broadcast rights to the Portuguese Cup (Taca de Portugal), one of the nation’s top futbol competitions. The agreement includes all eight rounds and final match of the 2015 tournament, plus the entire spring season in 2016. All games will air exclusively on GolTV and broadcast live in HD.

Earlier this year, the network acquired the rights to all home games from Benfica, Portugal’s top-ranked team and current league champions.

With the addition of the Portuguese Cup to the programming lineup, the network will now be airing matches of all the leading teams.

“The Portuguese Cup perfectly complements our regularly scheduled matches from Portugal’s top-ranked team, Benfica, to further serve passionate Portuguese soccer fans,” said Constantino Voulgaris, GolTV’s EVP of Programming and Business Development. “Securing the rights of the Portuguese Cup is part an ongoing strategy; to offer not only the highest quality, but the greatest diversity of leagues, teams and tournaments to our subscribers and affiliate partners. GolTV is thrilled to feature Portugal’s best teams and matches on a regular basis.”

This is the second European property acquired by GolTV in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the network announced an agreement for broadcast rights to the Scottish Cup.

GolTV broadcasts weekly matches from four of the top ten countries in the FIFA rankings, including Brazil, Germany, Portugal and Uruguay. GolTV also delivers an array highlights, news magazine and entertainment shows plus exclusive action from Mexico’s Liga Ascenso MX and International FIFA matches and tournaments.
