Ross Video, WSI Partner on New Augmented Reality Weather Solution

Ross Video and WSI, the Professional Division of the Weather Company, have partnered to provide an enhanced augmented reality experience for viewers of weather broadcasts.

WSI is introducing Max Reality, a dynamic augmented reality product that creates unprecedented 3D images of storms and traffic events through the integration of Ross’ UX VCC camera tracking system.

Ross Video will be providing technology, technical sales and support to WSI customers that wish to implement camera tracking with their augmented reality solution, and WSI will be involved in reselling the Ross portfolio of camera tracking products in conjunction with their Max Reality system.

The new UX Virtual Camera Control (UX VCC) software provides a bridge between a robotic or manual camera system with a tracking output and the Max Reality graphics engine.  UX VCC provides the coordinate, calibration and tracking integration required so that 3D weather can be displayed as though it was right there in the studio.

“We can’t wait to see how clients use 3D Augmented Weather to enhance their weather productions and explain weather in more compelling ways.” says David Ross, CEO of Ross Video. “Working with WSI to integrate UX VCC with Max Reality is yet another component in our strategy to deliver turn-key virtual solutions.”

This announcement fits the trend of increased adoption of virtual news sets, and augmented reality (or immersive) graphics, at the local level. Products and technologies such as UX VCC, along with creative services from Ross, deliver solutions that have the ability to blend high-tech, real-world sets with virtual elements.

Ross Virtual Solutions include design services, licensing, XPression motion graphics, UX virtual control software, CamBot and Furio robotics, Acuity and Carbonite production switchers, openGear signal processing, Inception media workflow applications, and OverDrive automated production control, as well as robust integration with leading third party products.
