Brigham Young University Receives SVG/NACDA Technology Leadership Award

Each year, the Sports Video Group and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics join forces to honor a university athletic department that has displayed commitment to investment in and execution of broadcast and video infrastructure. This year’s Technology Leadership Award was presented to Brigham Young University.

BYUtv’s Mikel Minor accepts the SVG/NACDA Technology Leadership Award on behalf of Brigham Young University on Thursday.

The combined efforts of the BYU Athletic Department and the nationally prominent BYUtv have placed video and technology at the forefront on the university’s campus. From the live production of hundreds of sports events per year to top-of-the-line coaches video, BYU has established itself over the past two decades as a leader in college sports-video production. The university continually strives to create programming for its global fan base that showcases its student-athletes.

“We have been working extremely hard over the past few decades to produce great video content,” said Associate AD, Communications, Duff Tittle, drawing attention to the various media partners that supported the rise of BYU athletics on the national and global stage. “About 30 years ago, we were fortunate to be involved in the very first live football broadcast on ESPN, and that relationship has continued to where it’s become a partnership.”

Tittle also drew attention to the hard work of Mikel Minor, senior coordinating producer of BYUtv Sports, the primary television home for BYU Cougar Athletics.

“BYUtv would not be BYUtv without him, and, without BYUtv, I would not be standing here today, and BYU would not be receiving this great honor,” said Tittle. “Their partnership has been immense, and they do everything for us.”

Minor joined Tittle on stage to jointly accept this year’s Technology Leadership Award and praised the athletic department for backing the vision and mission of BYUtv Sports.

“BYUtv is forward-thinking. The facility that we have is sometimes referred to as Bristol West, and it really is that robust and that magnificent,” said Minor. “But none of that would be possible without the forward-thinking administration that put that in place and gave us the tools we need.

“We are grateful to be aligned with previous Technology Leadership Award recipients — the University of Oklahoma and University of Notre Dame — and our friends and our colleagues,” he continued. “We thank SVG and NACTA for this award.”

The previous recipients of the SVG/NACDA Technology Leadership Award are the University of Oklahoma (2014) and the University of Notre Dame (2013).
