S3 Sports: Sportradar’s Steve Byrd on Fantasy, Gambling, and Data’s Role in Multiscreen Experiences

Over the past year, the sports business has embraced daily fantasy gaming with many professional leagues partnering with platforms such as DraftKings or FanDuel. In addition to seemingly opening the door to further conversations on the legalization of sports betting in the United States, this influx of instant gratification fantasy sports has created a whole new experience in multiscreen consumption for viewers and fans.

At last week’s 2nd Screen Summit: Summit, a panel of industry experts discussed the growth of this segment of the industry and the impact it is having on how content creators are using data and advanced statistical analytics to create multiscreen products to further both the sport and the betting services.

SVG caught up with the moderator of that panel, Steve Byrd, Chief Commercial Officer at Sportradar, a company leveraging its expertise in the value of sports stats and data to bolster digital content. Byrd breaks down his big takeaways from his panel and how a warmer reception to sports betting is changing the sports data world.

2nd Screen Summit: Sports is a joint production of the memberships of Sports Video Group and the 2nd Screen Society.
