Multidyne Expands HD-3500 Fiber-Optic Transceiver Capabilities

MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems has added new features to its existing line of HD-3500 Series Multi-rate Serial Digital Video Fiber-Optic Transceivers that help professionals convert and distribute the signals used to remotely control PTZ cameras from a far distance and also help users accurately synchronize multiple cameras during a live or studio productions.

HD-3500GE (Front)The first new feature of the HD-3500GE is Gigabit Ethernet (GigE), which can be leveraged to control pan, tilt, and zoom (PTZ) cameras from up to 3,000 meters (nearly 2 miles) over a single-mode fiber-optic cable. The new GigE option will also benefit streaming video applications and the fast transport of signals over a local area network (LAN).

The second new optional feature on the HD-3500GE is sync, which is ideal for genlocking multiple cameras and having them work in complete synchronization with each other. For those working with analog video, the new sync option can also be used for teleprompter.

“We continue to expand the HD-35000 Series of rack-mountable fiber transceivers with new features that customers have requested or ones that we feel give new life to the product line,” says Frank Jachetta, President of MultiDyne. “These products have been used in a myriad of ways and with these new optional features, we expect them to be used in ever more creative ways.”

The HD–3500 provides a multi–rate, high-definition, fiber-optic transport link for up to 1080p 3G HD–SDI signals. The system also supports 2 channels of outbound digital AES Audio or 4 analog audio channels with 2 bidirectional auxiliary audio channels for 4-wire intercom systems and two bidirectional RS–232 or RS 422 data channels as well as 4 GPI and 1 tally feeds.

The HD–3500 is a good fit for broadcast facilities that move high definition video as well as analog or digital audio intercom, GPI and tally. The data and GPI channels can be used to control equipment in remote locations. The tally relay can be used to control a camera tally lights or the tally relay can be used for other types of control.

The HD–3500 can also be used for remote camera control in the studio or for HD surveillance cameras outdoors. Several HD-3500 units are currently in use by NASCAR on Fox Sports and the Skycam robotic camera/cable-suspended system used for NFL telecasts. In both cases the data channels are leveraged for remote camera control.
