CCW 2015 Preview: A Peek At What’s To Hit The Exhibit Floor (Part 3)

Content & Communications World (CCW) 2015 kicks off this week at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City and with the power of NAB now behind the show, it promises to be one of the largest media, entertainment, video and communications technology conference on the East Coast this year.
Over 300 exhibiting companies are expected to show their wares, offering content creators a chance to catch up on some of the year’s biggest product announcements and debuts from NAB and IBC earlier this year. In addition, some companies will make some key product announcements and debuts.
Among those on hand are many of SVG’s sponsors companies. Here’s a quick look at what some of those tech vendors are planning for the big show.

Blackmagic Design
Blackmagic will demonstrate a number of products at CCW 2015, including DaVinci Resolve 12. First announced at NAB 2015, the professional editing and color correction software is now available for download from the Blackmagic Design website. The new DaVinci Resolve 12 is the software’s biggest update ever and includes incredible new features, making it both the world’s most powerful editor, as well as the world’s most advanced color grading system. The free DaVinci Resolve 12 is a complete professional editing and color grading solution for individual editors working on SD, HD and Ultra HD projects. It features a familiar multi track timeline with context sensitive editing tools, realtime multi camera editing, asymmetric and dynamic trimming, a new mixer, audio plug-ins, keyframe animation with on screen motion paths, new media management tools and much more.
Canon
Emmy Award winning Canon U.S.A. Senior Fellow Larry Thorpe will be live on stage at CCW on November 11 and 12 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York, NY presenting papers he has written on a wide variety of broadcast and cinema related topics. Larry will be presenting two times on papers throughout the show which include, Lens Strategies for the New Era of 4K UHD Digital Production, and On-Set HDR and WCG Digital Acquisition Ecosystem.
Imagine Communications
Imagine Communications, a global leader in video and advertising solutions serving the media and entertainment, multichannel video programming distributors, and enterprise markets, will be exhibiting solutions from its SDI and next-gen IP portfolio and delivering a presentation on the transition of media operations to generic computing environments at CCW. Reinforcing its reputation for driving innovation in the media and entertainment industry, Imagine Communications will be demonstrating solutions that bridge the SDI and next-gen domains to help enable media companies to gradually and gracefully shift operations to IP-based environments at their own pace and without stranding existing investments in baseband technologies.
Grass Valley
Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, will showcase its live production solutions in booth #1113 at CCW. In addition to product displays, the booth will feature information on the transition to IP, the increasing popularity of 4K/UHD content for better storytelling, and other trends in live production. Among the products featured at the show will be the Karrera K-Frame S-series switchers, which combine ultimate mid-range switcher performance with multiformat support, including 1080p and 4K. Offered as two system packages, three M/Es or two M/Es, this new compact frame includes an internal power supply, new controller module with ImageStore and multiviewer capabilities and IP I/O for SMPTE 2022-6 connectivity.
Sony
Sony’s newest addition to its PXW series of shoulder-mount camcorders – model PXW-X400 – delivers stronger network and wireless capabilities, improved weight balance, XAVC-Long 60P recording and pool feed functions to give ENG and field production professionals a versatile and high-performance tool. When a wireless LAN connection is unstable or unavailable, the new camcorder’s Ethernet interface (RJ45) enables direct connection to a network for file transfer, live streaming and control from a web browser. Near-field communications capability gives users a one-touch link between the camera and a mobile device. A Content Browser Mobile application enables users to preview or remotely control camcorder settings of various menu functions. The pool feed function (HD/SD SDI) lets users record a 1.5G HD-SDI external signal on SxS cards, useful for recording a distributed signal from another camera on-site without a portable deck.
JVCKENWOOD
JVC Professional Video, a division of JVCKENWOOD USA Corporation, will showcase its ProHD and 4KCAM camera lines, along with its latest Blu-ray/hard disc drive combo deck and an assortment of professional field and studio monitors, at CCW (booth 1119). The GY-LS300 4KCAM Super 35 handheld camera offers a new “JVC Log” gamma setting that expands dynamic range by 800 percent with film-like latitude, as well as Cinema 4K (4096×2180) and Cinema 2K (2048×1080) recording modes for digital cinema presentations. Available exclusively in the GY-LS300, Variable Scan Mapping technology adapts the camera’s Super 35 CMOS sensor to provide native support of MFT, PL, and EF mount lenses, among many others. The technology also drives the new Prime Zoom feature, which allows shooters using fixed-focal (prime) lenses to zoom in and out – without losing resolution or depth of field – using the camera’s hand grip zoom rocker.
Linear Acoustic
Linear Acoustic will be demonstrating the latest audio processing and Audio over IP (AoIP) solutions at CCW 2015 (Booth 1402). On display will be the AERO.soft enterprise-class television audio processor, AERO.10 DTV audio processor, and an array of AoIP solutions. The AERO.soft features Linear Acoustic processing engines identical to those in the AERO.100/1000/2000, with optional Dolby coding, while also supporting the ongoing transition to AoIP. Its fully customizable I/O, gold standard audio and loudness control and logging make configuration and maintenance easier than ever before. The AERO.soft Engine can host eight AEROMAX 5.1 (5.1+2+2) or AEROMAX 2.0 (2+2+2) processing instances. This innovative approach to audio processing allows simple and future-resistant upgrades to support additional program channels, or new features and technology like personalized and immersive audio.
RED Digital Cinema
RED Digital Cinema will be represented at CCW at the Snell Advanced Media booth, #903. The 6K RED EPIC DRAGON camera and the REDCAST Module will be featured in the booth’s acquisition area as part of a complete broadcast workflow. Featuring an unrivaled combination of 6K resolution, high frame rates and image quality, the EPIC DRAGON is RED’s best-selling camera to-date. Its 16+ stops of dynamic range allow cinematographers and photographers the ability to handle challenging lighting conditions and capture remarkable images. Recording images in RED’s proprietary file format, REDCODE RAW, the EPIC DRAGON offers an enhanced and versatile workflow.
SAM (Snell Advanced Media)
SAM will display multiple cornerstone solutions in booth 903 which enable media providers to address their operational and business needs with confidence in light of the changing technology environment. For live production, the recent launch of the Kahuna IP switcher configurations augments its SD, HD, 1080p and 4K solution. Customers have the choice of an all-IP Kahuna system, or with a standard SDI Kahuna system to replace individual input and/or output ‘fins’ with IP fins, enabling users to transition to IP at a rate which suits their developing business needs. The Kahuna switcher with Maverik control panel delivers ultimate power, creativity, flexibility and built-in SAM reliability freeing users to create their productions, their way.
Azzurro
The AzzurroTX portable transmission system is the perfect solution for sports clients for a bi-directional transmission solution at locations within a sports venue that may not have direct connectivity to traditional long-haul fiber carriers. AzzurroTX provides two VoIP dial tones for communication, IFB and PL. Based on it’s compact size, it is easily transported. The unit is ‘plug & play’ with a viable public internet connection.
AzzurroTX is currently deployed at football stadiums for live shots on sidelines or locker room areas. Configured as a transmit and receive device, the reporter, player or coach being interviewed has the ability to see the studio analyst they are speaking with. Multiple systems have been deployed to cover press conferences and award ceremonies outside of a true sports venue making it an ideal solution for offsite locations where fiber facilities or a satellite truck may not be an option such as hotels, theaters, and auditoriums.
BeckTV
BeckTV (formerly Beck Associates) is one of the United States’ premier design-build systems integrators. With more than 30 years of experience, the company has designed and built more professional television facilities for more customers than any other systems integrator. At CCW 2015 in booth 643, expert personnel from BeckTV will be available to give attendees a look at the company’s portfolio of current and newly completed projects, which include installations for government agencies, sports teams and complexes, mobile production units, and numerous broadcast facilities of all sizes. Attendees also will have the opportunity to discuss their own projects and technical objectives with the BeckTV team.
Black Box
Black Box will exhibit its portfolio of broadcast and media-ready KVM solutions at Content and Communications World (CCW) in booth #1335. Comrex
Comrex Corporation, an innovator in IP broadcasting technology, will be displaying its premiere LiveShot video-over-IP codec at CCW/SATCON 2015 at the Javits Convention Center on November 11 and 12. LiveShot sends live, wireless, low-latency audio and video bidirectionally over a range of IP networks. Comrex LiveShot is light-weight, weighing only three pounds, and designed for versatile use. With return video, two IFB returns, and cue channel audio, LiveShot is feature-rich enough to fulfill the needs of broadcasters in the field under a multitude of circumstances. Equipped with CrossLock VPN, LiveShot provides a secure network for data transmission, while also providing a simpler networking experience to configure a bonded channel. Compatible with most professional and prosumer cameras, LiveShot integrates easily with existing hardware infrastructure. While LiveShot is designed to slip behind a camera battery, it can also be mounted in a truck, carried in a backpack, or carried in a waist-belt, depending on user-preference. LiveShot can be managed in the field with a user-friendly smart-phone app, which enables users to monitor network connections and adjust settings.
EEG
EEG will exhibit advanced closed captioning solutions for online content creators, captioning providers, and postproduction professionals at CCW. On display will be EEG’s recently launched Falcon Web-Streaming Caption Encoder. A virtual caption encoder available through EEG Cloud Services, Falcon provides an efficient and cost-effective captioning solution to any content creator offering live online content. With Falcon Streaming Caption Encoder, users will benefit from on-demand usage-pricing for sending live captions via EEG’s iCap Secure Realtime Captioning System directly to popular Web video hosting services. Falcon is compatible with YouTube Live Events, VideoLinq, UVault, and any system running Wowza Streaming Engine.
FOR-A
FOR-A plans to exhibit its popular video switchers and signal processors. As Fujitsu’s exclusive North American distributor, FOR-A will also be showcasing Fujitsu encoding and decoding technology at CCW within Booth #816. One FOR-A booth highlight will be the HVS-2000 video switcher. Ideal for a wide variety of video production users, the HVS-2000 was recently made available with a 3M/E control panel. The cost-efficient HVS-2000 features exclusive functions that set it apart from other switchers in its class and give it the power and flexibility of a 6M/E unit, including MELite, which allows a traditional AUX bus to transform into a functional M/E with cut, mix, wipe and key control. Another switcher feature is FLEXaKEY with preview, which allows operators to tailor their production needs by adding and moving key and DVE layers to traditional M/E resources or to MELite resources.
Gepco/General Cable
General Cable will feature and demonstrate its Blown Optical Fiber (BOF) System in the Gepco/General Cable booth (#449) at Content and Communications World (CCW). Blown Optical Fiber technology provides flexibility in Broadcast cabling infrastructure design, while anticipating and facilitating future changes as the network evolves. General Cable’s BOF System provides the right system for the right application with its Individual & Bundled Blown Optical Fiber Systems. The first and only blown fiber system on the market to feature dual blowing technologies within a single installation machine, General Cable’s BOF System allows the user to match the technology to the type and severity of the installation route.

JB&A
JB&A Distribution will feature complete solutions for media management and live production workflows, as well as a stunning video wall running a digital signage solution at the upcoming CCW. JB&A’s booth (#1143) will have two full workflow stations set up for live demos. One of their solutions includes a line of products around the NewTek TriCaster; which is used in multiple market places and environments. With JB&A’s TriCaster & Beyond solution, you can manage the entire broadcast video workflow including: multiple camera ingest, video production and replay, streaming, storage, video management, telestration, routing, and distribution. Nemal
Nemal has added two new versions to its comprehensive line of SMPTE standard Camera Cables. Part Number FOCC24S7 is ideal for use in applications where size, weight, and flexibility are critical. Part Number FOCC24S7U offers the same size advantage with an extra rugged polyurethane jacket for harsh outdoor environments. With a diameter 30% smaller than standard SMPTE cable, these cables are suitable for use up to 300 meters, depending on camera model, and easily fits on standard Nemal reelers. Corning bend tolerant fiber guarantees optimum performance with a small bend radius. The cables are available in bulk in assorted colors as well as in custom terminated lengths with Lemo connectors. Nemal also manufactures SMPTE standard camera cables, panels, assemblies, adapters, and tooling.
Primestream
At CCW 2015, Primestream will show FORK v5.5 and Xchange v4.5, the latest versions of its acclaimed cross platform software suites for Dynamic Media Management.
