Behind the Mic: Dan Shulman To Work 30 Blue Jays Games, Cantor Re-Ups with Telemundo Through 2022

Dan Shulman will call upwards of 30 Blue Jays games on Sportsnet for the 2016 and 2017 MLB seasons, working alongside Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler. Shulman, a Toronto native, began his broadcast career at CKBB in Barrie in 1990, before moving to the FAN 1430 (now Sportsnet 590 The FAN) in 1991, where he hosted a number of shows, including Prime Time Sports. In addition to his work on Sportsnet’s Blue Jays broadcasts this season, Shulman will also make appearances on Sportsnet’s Blue Jays Central, Blue Jays Central at Noon, Tim & Sid and sportsnet.ca. Shulman and Martinez called Blue Jays broadcasts together for seven years from 1995 to 2001, and will be reunited in 2016. Shulman, Martinez and Tabler will make up a three-man broadcast booth for select games. The Dodgers have added 27-year-old Joe Davis to call 50 road games on television for SportsNet LA in 2016. Davis will call those road games with Orel Hershiser, Nomar Garciaparra and Alanna Rizzo. It is unclear how many road games, if any, Vin Scully will call in 2016, Scully’s 67th and final season. Scully in 2015 only called nine games away from Dodger Stadium – six in San Francisco and three in Anaheim. Charley Steiner will call the remainder of the road games televised by SportsNet LA in 2016 and, when he isn’t calling the game on television will continue to team with Rick Monday on the radio broadcast. Davis calls college football, college basketball and baseball games for Fox Sports, having done so since 2014. Prior to that he called college football, college basketball, hockey and softball games for ESPN for a year and a half, as well as occasional baseball for ESPN radio. … New York Liberty forward Swin Cash has been added as a Knicks studio analyst for select games during the 2015-16 season. Cash made her Knicks telecast debut on Friday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. during “Visa Knicks Game Night.” In addition, Cash is the host of “Nothing But Knicks,” the half-hour original series featuring Head Coach Derek Fisher, assistant coaches and players as they take fans on a behind-the-scenes look at the Knicks with special access to practice and film sessions. “Nothing But Knicks” airs bi-weekly on Fridays before complete coverage of the Knicks games. One of the most accomplished players in WNBA history, Cash joined the Liberty in 2014.

… Thomas Hitzlsperger, known during his professional soccer career in Germany and England as “Der Hammer,” joins FOX Sports as a contributing studio and game analyst assigned to cover Bundesliga and other high-profile European matches beginning next week with the UEFA Euro Playoffs. The announcement was made today by Jonty Whitehead, executive producer for FOX Sports’ soccer coverage. A midfielder by trade, the accomplished Hitzlsperger was a member of Germany’s 2006 World Cup team, won a Bundesliga league title with Stuttgart in 2007 and played for English Premier League clubs Aston Villa, Everton and West Ham United during his standout career…

…Bode Miller, the most decorated U.S. Olympic skier in history, will make his debut as an analyst during NBC Sports’ coverage of the “Birds of Prey” World Cup alpine skiing event from Beaver Creek Resort in Beaver Creek, Colo., December 4-6. NBC Sports alpine skiing host Dan Hicks will call “Birds of Prey” alongside Miller, with Steve Porino serving as course reporter and Todd Brooker handling interviews.

… Longtime NHL journalist and TV analyst Elliotte Friedman has been recruited to NHL Network where he will go on-air as an Insider. Starting in 2016, Cervasio will host a new New York Cosmos pre-game show and serve as the in-game reporter joining the telecast team of JP Dellacamera and Shep Messing.  She will also join Ed Cohen to co-host ONE World Sports’ “NASL This Week,” the network’s weekly inside look at the NASL…

…The NASCAR on FOX will feature veteran play-by-play announcer Mike Joy and analysts Darrell Waltrip, together for their 16th season, and newcomer and four-time champion Jeff Gordon, plus new NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES play-by-play announcer Vince Welch. Veteran crew chief Larry McReynolds returns for his 16th year with the network, providing in-race analysis during each event armed with 40 years in the sport. The team is joined on pit road by reporters Jamie Little, Chris Neville, Welch and Matt Yocum.  FOX broadcasts 10 of FOX Sports’ 16 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES races, while FS1 telecasts six. Chris Myers hosts FOX NASCAR SUNDAY, the network’s fast-paced prerace show from the traveling Hollywood Hotel, alongside Gordon and brothers Darrell and Michael Waltrip.

The NASCAR XFINITY SERIES returns to FOX Sports for the second consecutive season in 2016, with Adam Alexander once again handling fulltime play-by-play duties alongside analyst Michael Waltrip and a rotation of NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES drivers. For the 14th consecutive year, FS1 offers exclusive coverage of the entire NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES season.  Welch, longtime pit reporter covering the Cup and XFINITY Series, moves into the Truck Series play-by-play role fulltime in 2016 with veteran analysts Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip. A new pairing this season is play-by-play veteran Sean McDonough and analyst Doris Burke on the ACC Big Monday package. The trio of Brent Musburger, Fran Fraschilla and Holly Rowe return to work Big 12 Big Monday games. Analyst Jay Bilas, entering his 22nd season at ESPN, will be paired with Dan Shulman and reporter Shannon Spake on the Saturday Primetime Presented by DIRECTV game that host’s that day’s College GameDay Driven by State Farm. College GameDay returns for its 12th season as host Rece Davis, Bilas, Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams will follow the top storylines as the season develops with a schedule that features several options each week to choose from each Saturday, beginning January 23. Basketball Hall of Famer Dick Vitale, who enters his 37th season calling games for the network, will join with Dave O’Brien and reporter Allison Williams each Saturday mainly for the marquee ACC matchup.   Davis will pair with Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun on a Big Ten Thursday Night Showcase games. Mike Tirico, the voice of Monday Night Football, pairs again with analyst Dan Dakich, in addition to Williams for the weekly Big Ten Super Tuesday game. Dakich will also call a Saturday Big Ten contest with Bob Wischusen. ESPN’s weekly Super Tuesday SEC telecast will see the return of Brad Nessler, Sean Farnham and Spake. Farnham will also join Joe Tessitore on the Thursday SEC telecast. Analyst Kara Lawson and Mark Jones will call the Saturday SEC window, plus Lawson will make a weekly appearance in ESPN’s Bristol, Conn., studios on Thursday nights. Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton will again have the call of Pac-12 games on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with Dave Pasch. ACC games will also be covered by Wischusen and LaPhonso Ellis (Wednesday/Thursday) and on Saturdays by Mike Couzens and Cory Alexander. The ESPNU ACC Sunday Night Basketball series will be called by Anish Shroff and Cory Alexander. New to ESPNU, Ted Emrich, Alex Faust, Kevin Fitzgerald and Jenn Hildreth bring a depth of play-by-play experience, in addition to analysts Jason Capel, Antwan Jamison and Chris Spatola joining the 24-hour college sports network.

SEC Network will present more than 120 SEC games exclusively, and will include analysts Dane Bradshaw, Barry Booker, Joe Dean, Jr., Tony Delk, Andrew DeClerq, Daymeon Fishback, John Pelphrey and Jon Sundvold, as well as play-by-play commentators Dave Baker, Tom Hart, Mike Morgan, Dave Neal and John Saunders.

Longhorn Network will surround the network’s nine exclusive Texas men’s basketball games with studio programming that includes Game Plan with head coach Shaka Smart, as well as a simulcast of his weekly radio show. Texas GameDay will air from non-conference home games against North Carolina and UConn, in addition to select conferences games.
