FOX Sports Visits Hawaii For Weekend of Live Productions Honoring Anniversary of Attacks on Pearl Harbor

This weekend will mark the 74th anniversary of the “date that will live in infamy;” the attack on Pearl Harbor that launched the United States into World War II. As a part of its “FOX Salutes the Military,” FOX Sports will spend the weekend in Hawaii with a series of live events aimed at honoring the memory of the Pearl Harbor attacks and celebrating American military servicemen and women stationed around the world.

FullSizeRenderFOX Sports will host its FOX NFL Sunday pre-game show, a USWNT friendly soccer match, and the FS1 Pearl Harbor Invitational, a college basketball tournament, all live from various locations around Pearl Harbor and the state of Hawaii.

“This is one of my favorite bits of my career; getting to do these military tributes,” says Mike Davies, SVP, Field and Technical Operations for FOX Sports. “I’ve been lucky to work on them in Afganistan, Qatar, and Korea and coming out here, there’s a spirit of cooperation and that’s something I’ve been extremely proud of. Seeing what we can accomplish together is amazing. We definitely are guests on their territory and they’ve been unbelievably hospitable.”

FOX NFL Sunday will be hosted from a remote set live from Ford Pier overlooking the memorial to the USS Arizona – one of the first ships struck in the attack – and alongside the USS Missouri – aboard which Gen Douglas MacArthur accepted Japan’s surrender in Tokyo Bay in 1945.

Later on Sunday, Fox Sports will broadcast the USWNT’s friendly match with CONCACAF rival Trinidad & Tobago at Aloha Stadium on Honolulu (8 p.m. ET) utilizing NEP Broadcasting’s NEP ND2 mobile production unit.

Finally, the main event for the weekend and the original catalyst for the trip, comes on Monday with the production of the FS1 Pearl Harbor Invitational, a college hoops doubleheader featuring Oklahoma v. Villanova (7 p.m. ET) and Navy v. Oregon (9:30 p.m. ET).

FOX Sports has worked with event productions company Positive Impact, the erect a court and arena seating inside Bloch Arena, located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The building that survived the bombings and has tremendous historical significance, hosting a performance by the band of the USS Arizona the night before the attacks.

NEP Broadcasting’s SS14 will support the basketball production.

Throughout the weekend, FOX Sports will also air several original features and vignettes related to the history of Pearl Harbor, the attacks on Dec. 7, World War II, and today’s active military.
