NBC Sports Group Inks Deal With Nitro Circus to Produce Nitro World Games

NBC Sports Group and Nitro Circus announced an exclusive media agreement to present the inaugural Nitro World Games on July 16, at 8 p.m. ET from Rice-Eccles stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

NBCSportsGroupFeaturing a strong collection of the world’s best action sports athletes, the Nitro World Games will bring together the country’s best FMX, Skateboard, BMX and Inline skating athletes, along with an array of top international talent looking to capture medals, prize money and the title of Nitro World Games Champion.

Created by action sports icon Travis Pastrana, with Nitro Circus CEO and Creative Director, Michael Porra, the Nitro World Games will bring action sports competition to a new level. The inaugural event will include the most exciting and popular disciplines in action sports, as well as new disciplines, formats, tricks and more than 15 different ramps. In addition, each event will be a championship contest with no preliminary rounds.

NBC Sports will present three hours of live coverage of the debut action sports event. All coverage shown on NBC will also be streamed on NBC Sports Live Extra, NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets and connected TV’s.

With the Nitro World Games, we want to create an event that raises the bar and takes action sports to the next level.”

This is absolutely essential for the industry’s growth. Nitro Circus was created in Salt Lake City and it remains our spiritual home. It also hosted the tremendously successful 2002 Olympic Winter Games. I can’t think of a better location for the Nitro World Games.”

As was previously announced, NBC Sports Ventures and Nitro Circus formed a multi-year partnership in June. As part of the agreement, the partnership includes television specials on NBC and NBCSN, and the recent debut of Nitro Circus: Crazy Train, an eight-part reality series on NBCSN.
