University of Portland to Produce Eight Live Games For Comcast SportsNet Northwest

The University of Portland and Comcast SportsNet Northwest have reached an agreement to broadcast eight Pilots home sporting events during the 2015-16 school year. Portland Sports Network, UP’s in-house video department, will handle all production elements for the broadcasts.

portlandcsnThe deal extends an already existing relationship between UP athletics and Comcast SportsNet as Portland has aired its monthly 30-minute show ‘Portside with the Pilots’ on the network.

“This is another example of how the University of Portland Athletics brand continues to grow in this market,” said Portland Athletic Director Scott Leykam. “We have great media partnerships that are evolving and we are excited that Comcast SportsNet Northwest is providing us with another valuable exposure opportunity.”

The first game broadcast will be this Sunday afternoon when the Portland women’s basketball team hosts the Boise State Broncos at 2 p.m. Travis Demers will handle play-by-play duties, and he will be joined by analyst and UP Athletics Hall of Fame member Bill Krueger. Both Demers and Krueger have previous experience announcing Pilots sporting events.

Other notable broadcasts with include the Pilot men’s basketball game against West Coast Conference rival San Francisco on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. The first baseball game under the newly installed lights at Joe Etzel Field will air on Friday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m., while the Pilots versus Oregon State baseball game on Tuesday, Mar. 22 will air on a tape-delayed basis at 8 p.m. that night.

“Our in-house video department has grown into a valuable resource for the University and is unparalleled in terms of the quality and distribution we are providing among comparable institutions,” Leykam added. “We will continue our push to expose University of Portland Athletics to a wider audience and showcase the great programs we have here on The Bluff.”

Comcast SportsNet Northwest will air a total of three women’s basketball games this season, one men’s basketball game and four baseball home games this spring. The next ‘Portside with the Pilots’ episode is scheduled to air on Tuesday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m. See below for the full live broadcast schedule.
