SVG Summit 2015: Hall of Famers Fred Aldous, Jerry Steinberg, and Pat Sullivan Talk Management Style, Recruiting Young Talent, and Remembering Sandy Grossman

The 2015 Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame ceremony added eight industry legends to its ranks. Three of this year’s inductees — Fred Aldous, Jerry Steinberg, and Pat Sullivan — took to the stage at the SVG Summit on Tuesday in New York City to reflect on their careers, the growth of Fox Sports, and the future of the industry. Legendary audio guru Fred Aldous shares his philosophy on audio (“if I see it, I want to hear it”) and looks to the future (“I think we still need to get 5.1 surround sound right before we move forward into object-based audio environment”):

While Aldous, Steinberg, and Sullivan were on hand to accept their HOF inductions, sadly, another key member of the Fox Sports family was not. Groundbreaking director Sandy Grossman, who passed away in 2014, was also inducted this week. Grossman directed 10 Super Bowls (a likely unbreakable record), 18 NBA Finals, five Stanley Cup Finals, eight Sports Emmy Awards, and two Olympics, and served for 21 years as director on the de-facto “greatest NFL broadcast team ever” with announcers Pat Summerall and John Madden and producer Bob Stenner. Aldous, Steinberg, and Sullivan remember the great Grossman here:

During a discussion about their respective management philosophies, the overwhelming sentiment was to assemble the best possible team and then let them do what they do best. Aldous (“keep management out of the way and let us do our thing”), Steinberg (“get the best people and let them do their business”), and Sullivan (“seek people that are really talented and, once they’re there, let them do what they do best”) each sound off on their philosophies:
