NBC Sports Digital Launches SnapChat Account

NBC Sports Digital launched its Snapchat account, NBCSports. The account debuted in advance of the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Years Day. The account took fans behind-the-scenes into NBC Sports production trucks and down onto the ice during the marquee event.

SnapchatOn Dec. 31, NBC Sports NHL analyst Jeremy Roenick took over the account to show “a day in the life” as he visited the set and interacted with fans. The account also showed scenes from “Fan Fest” at the 2016 NHL Winter Classic Spectator Plaza, and the NHL Winter Classic Alumni Game. NBC Sports’ Snapchat account showed scenes from the NHL Winter Classic between the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins, showing views from “Fan Fest” as the excitement and atmosphere built, from the stands, from the ice, and more.

NBC Sports Group’s comprehensive Winter Classic social media plan also included:

  • A “day in the life” with Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick on Instagram and Twitter as he prepared for the game;
  • A Twitter chat with Eddie Olczyk using the “AnswerCam” app to record and post his answers to fans’ questions. Fans were encouraged to should use #AskEdzo for a chance to have their question answered by Olczyk;
  • #MyWinterClassic campaign, for which fans could submit their photos and videos of what hockey means to them. Select #MyWinterClassic submissions were used on-air during the NHL Winter Classic

In addition, NBCSports.com’s Pro Hockey Talk had the latest stats, news, and storylines ahead of the game, with Mike Halford and Jason Brough from PHT contributing a series of “Scenes from the Winter Classic” posts on-site beginning tomorrow.
