Live From CFP Championship: Zebra Technologies Deploys Player-Tracking System

Zebra Technologies’ Zebra Sports Solution, which operates inside every NFL stadium, will be used for the College Football Playoffs (CFP) National Championship Game at the University of Phoenix Stadium on Jan. 11. Zebra collaborated with the CFP and the four participating schools (Alabama, Clemson, Michigan State, Oklahoma) to implement its real-time player-tracking system for the CFP semifinals at the Orange Bowl at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL, and the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Dec. 31.

The Zebra Sports Solution enables leagues and teams to gain real-time insight into the action happening on the field of play, providing precise location and motion performance data.

“We are expanding on our 2015 regular-season college-football initiatives and our work with the CFP along with each of the four universities selected to participate in this year’s college-football playoffs,” says Eric Petrosinelli, GM, Zebra Sports. “By bringing innovative player-tracking technology to the games, we are providing schools with in-depth player-tracking data.”

Zebra equips every NFL team and player with shoulder-pad sensors that collect data used by coaches, broadcasters, and fans.

“We were very excited to be presented the opportunity to work with Zebra Technologies and have its player-tracking technology used in the Orange Bowl as well as in tonight’s game,” says Woody McCorvey, assistant athletic director, football relations, Clemson University. “This solution will help schools to evolve training, scouting, and evaluation through increased knowledge of the game and player performance.”
