Teradek Steps into the Ring with Golden Boy Promotions

Golden Boy Promotions presents packed shows on networks such as HBO, Showtime, FOX Sports 1, and FOX Deportes, but has widened its reach by streaming boxing matches on a channel that specifically caters to boxing fans online. For those viewers, they developed an OTT (over-the-top) service called Ring TV Live. In this new enterprise, Golden Boy Promotions added the Teradek Bolt 2000.

teradek-logoRing TV Live presents live broadcasts that shows HD boxing videos on Roku TV, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, YouTube Live, and other streaming platforms.

In downtown Los Angeles at The Belasco Theater, Golden Boy Productions transmitted uninterrupted video in a crowded arena with Teradek Bolt Pro 2000, a wireless transmitter with SDI connectivity that delivers zero-delay, uncompressed 4:2:2 video over the unlicensed 5GHz band. Trying to transmit HD video in an packed boxing arena with dense wireless frequency can limit flexibility and consistency. With Bolt’s high-powered wireless signal, they not only received a robust, expansive range up to 2,000 feet during their production, but also navigated around physical barriers without hassle.

“One thing that’s always been a struggle for us as a company has been the ability to be mobile with a camera without dropping feed; we were able to go all around the ring with Bolt, capturing a richer experience for the audience with close-up action and behind the scenes footage,” said Will Wright, VP of Digital Production from Golden Boy Promotions.

By easily incorporating Bolt into their workflow, Golden Boy Promotions could control real-time standards conversion of resolution and frame rate via the OLED screen with no added delay.

“Having a strong signal while going all around the show – in the locker rooms, outside with the fans, in the arena – really makes a difference in the production and that’s something we were able to do tonight with Teradek.”
