BSC Expo: LEADER Electronics Europe To Show Advanced 4K Test, Measurement Technology

LEADER Electronics Europe announces that its advanced 4K test and measurement technology will be on show at the BSC Expo exhibition in London, January 29-30. Panasonic and Sony will be using LEADER LV 5490 4K waveform monitors to showcase the color imagery of their 4K cameras.

LEADER“BSC Expo attracts visitors from the digital film and high-end broadcast sector for whom 4K and its 3840 x 2160 pixel UHD television variant are rapidly becoming seriously attractive formats for program production,” says LEADER’s European Market Development Manager, Kevin Salvidge. “The demonstrations will center on the real-time CIE Color Space display that is unique to the LV 5490. Also on show will be LEADER’s CINEZONE and CINELITE, which allow scientifically accurate acquisition and communication of post-production and color correction signal parameters while at the same time being intuitive for creatives to handle.”

“CINEZONE allows production staff to identify potential camera and lighting setup issues that could result in incorrectly exposed images. It uses highly intuitive color coding to indicate the position and area of any signals likely to cause concern. This is a much easier process than trying to gauge exposure purely from the camera viewfinder or an attached monitor.

“A companion technology to CINEZONE, CINELITE allows on-screen measurement of video levels in RGB percentage, Y percentage and F-stop readings. Using CINELITE, a cameraman or production team can point a cursor to any position on the camera output display to obtain precise information about the signal at that location. This tool is very useful for scene matching when changing cameras or camera positions in a scene. Operators can quickly and easily verify that their cameras are producing the same picture values as before. The resulting measurement is digitally precise and represents the material as actually recorded.

“The whole process is made even simpler by the LV 5490’s ability to operate in up to four user-assignable display modes simultaneously, for example showing CINEZONE, viewfinder output and pixel-location cursors.”

In its standard form, the LV 5490 offers 4K, UHD, HD, SD and sub-SD format text and measurement features in a compact portable unit which can be operated on mains or battery power. 12G-SDI connectivity is achieved via an optional interface card equipped with four SD-SDI inputs. This will support 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI quad link, 3G-SDI dual-link and HD-SDI, each input handling a quarter of the 4096 x 2160 pixel 4K or 3840 x 2160 pixel UHD image. A reclocked 12G-SDI output is also provided.

Also in use at the Sony booth will be the LEADER LV 5333 3G waveform monitor. Compatible with over 20 HD-SDI/SD-SDI formats, it is designed for deployment in studios, technical areas or attached to a video camera-support tripod. The integral 6.5 inch XGA TFT LCD screen can also be used to display video signal waveform, vectorscope, or the video image. Features include cable length, external timing display and field frequency deviation display.

The LV 5333’s user-configurable multi-display combinations allow easy inspection of signal parameters. Full-screen displays can alternatively be selected to allow detailed review of specific elements. Up to eight channels of embedded audio can be displayed using bar level meters. SDI-embedded audio can be extracted and two user-selectable audio channels sent as AES/EBU to a BNC output. Audio can also be monitored via the headphone output.

The LV 5333 can be set to display YCbCr, YRGB, YGBR, GBR, or RGB luminance waveform, colour vector, five-bar, surround-sound level, status or video source. Freeze mode allows comparison of different SDI input signals. Thumbnail picture display can be selected with other multi-display operating modes for easy source identification. Input format, colorimetry, black burst or tri-level external reference input are auto-sensed. Any line of the video signal can selected and displayed in waveform, vector or five-bar representations.

The LV5333 occupies a 215 x 128 x 63 mm housing and weighs 1.3 kg. It can be powered from battery or a universal mains adapter.
