Venue News: Milwaukee Bucks Release Proposed Arena Renderings; University of Wisconsin Boosts Mobile Connectivity, App

The Bucks’ yet-to-be-named arena will have a curved roof and what appear to be wood panels. The new arena didn’t come without some controversy. The new arena is being half funded by state and local taxpayers, whose $250 million stake in the $500 million arena will increase to $400 million with interest…

…Sports fans at the University of Wisconsin have been enjoying a nice technology two-fer for the last 20 months, writes Mobile Sports Report. In addition to new WiFi and beacon technology at its largest sporting venues in Madison, WI, the university also released v3.0.2 of its Badger Game Day app which adds live and archived video, among other features, for fans and their smartphones…

…The Cleveland Cavaliers and Rock Ventures plan to drape the roof of Quicken Loans Arena with an LED banner promoting the facility and its eponymous sponsor, writes The Plain Dealer. The 360-by-90-foot sign won’t be visible from surrounding streets. It will, however, be an unmissable addition to flyover shots of downtown Cleveland, where the Quicken Loans name could occupy prime-time real estate during major sporting events and this summer’s Republican National Convention…

Organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics announced that the planned temporary venue for gymnastics will be converted to a permanent facility by 2019, writes Reuters. Spokesperson for the Tokyo games, Hikariko Ono, stated that the idea behind upgrading the venue was because it could be utilized for business purposes in the future. The venue will be situated in Tokyo’s Ariake area and will have a capacity to seat 12,000 spectators. It will also be in close proximity to venues hosting tennis, BMX cycling, and indoor volleyball…

…Rochester College will soon be home to a new sports arena, which has been a long time in the making, according to college officials. The college will break ground April 22 on the one-story, 23,000-square-foot Garth Pleasant Arena, named after the men’s basketball coach who served for 38 years. It will serve as the new home for men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball, and will have a fan capacity of 868, with a maximum capacity of over 1,500, including floor seating. The facility is set to be completed by February 2017.
