ESPN International Acquires Rights to International Champions Cup in Mexico, Central America

ESPN International has reached an exclusive three-year, multimedia agreement with Relevent Sports to carry the International Champions Cup (ICC) in Mexico and Central America. The first tournament included in the agreement kicks off July 22, at 8 a.m. ET on ESPN.

ESPN_International_logoUnder the terms of the deal, ESPN International has rights to air all matches across television and digital platforms in Mexico and Central America, including television networks ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN+ and streaming on ESPN Play.  ESPN will also feature additional content, news and analysis on ESPN.com and ESPNFC.com.

“The International Champions Cup showcases the world’s best clubs and players and we are thrilled to add it to ESPN’s extensive roster of soccer events in Mexico and Central America,” said Michael Walters, vice president of programming for ESPN International. “We are also certain that the ICC will be at the top on fan tune-in lists and are pleased to bring them unparalleled, multimedia coverage on all of our platforms in the region.”

ESPN’s multiplatform presentation of the 2016 ICC features 140 hours of coverage, including live, delayed and repeat airings with all matches streaming live on ESPN Play. The network’s flagship show,SportsCenter, and Fuera de Juego will provide the latest match reports, analysis and reactions.

Now in its fourth edition, the ICC 2016 will be played in the U.S. and across the globe, including standalone tournaments in China and Australia. Top European clubs confirmed to compete include Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United. This year’s event includes:

  • Participation of last season’s champion clubs from UEFA Champions League, La Liga, English Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1
  • Winners of, cumulatively, 190 domestic league titles, 246 domestic cup titles and 36 UEFA Champions League titles
  • Eighteen of the 2015-2016 FIFA Ballon d’Or nominees, as well as 50 of the top 100 players in the world (ranking: FourFourTwo magazine)
