ONE World Sports Signs Deal With AT&T for Carriage on DirecTV, U-verse

ONE World Sports announced that it has signed a multiyear, multiplatform carriage agreement with AT&T for distribution on AT&T’s DirecTV and U-verse platforms.

ONE-World-SportsBeginning September 5, more than 2,600 hours annually of ONE World Sports’ marquee event programming, from the U.S. and around the globe, is now available to 43 million homes nationwide. ONE World Sports will be offered in HD only in the DirecTV SPORTS PACK on Channel 623 and on U-verse The Sports Package on Channel 1665.

“The media landscape is evolving rapidly, but this transaction underscores that live sports, with its mix of excitement, immediacy and fan loyalty, continues to attract and retain subscribers,” says Alexander “Sandy” Brown, President and CEO, ONE World Sports. “We’re thrilled that DIRECTV and U-verse  have added ONE World Sports, an independently owned network, to their lineups.”

“ONE World Sports offers an alternative for viewers who are passionate about sporting events that don’t often receive wide coverage in the U.S. like rugby and cricket,” says Rob Thun, SVP, Content and Programming, for AT&T.  “We anticipate ONE World Sports will be a popular addition to our SPORTS PACK for all kinds of fans.”

Showcasing many of the world’s best-known sports including soccer, cricket, ice hockey, basketball and rugby, ONE World Sports is also the destination for North American and European soccer and U.S. college football, basketball and hockey as well as emerging sports such as drone racing. In September, ONE World Sports kicks off coverage of Ivy League football when the Yale Bulldogs host the Colgate Raiders on September 17.

Also in September, ONE World Sports continues its coverage of the North American Soccer League (NASL) with its Game of the Week and NASL This Week highlight shows and live coverage of all the New York Cosmos’ home and away games. Already underway on the network are Kontinental Hockey League and Champions Hockey League action and the European soccer season featuring Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona, and Bayern Munich FC.

“As the enormous interest generated by the recent Olympics has clearly demonstrated, American sports fans love to cheer for the home team while embracing competition in a global setting,” adds Randy Brown, EVP of Distribution, ONE World Sports. “ONE World Sports’ varied sports programming from within the U.S. and abroad, coupled with an overall millennial appeal, complements DIRECTV’s other sports offerings and provides an avenue for greater viewership and deeper engagement with fans.”
