IBC 2016: Hitachi Showcases Advanced HDR Capabilities in Broadcast-System Cameras

At IBC 2016, Hitachi Kokusai Electric showed its 4K/UHD and HDTV broadcast cameras with the addition of advanced high-dynamic-range capabilities. Hitachi exhibited HDR across a range of UHD and HD cameras, demonstrating an ability to integrate the technology in a range of different broadcast-camera systems.

Hitachi showcased a number of HDR-upgraded cameras, such as its Z-Series, SK-Series, and DK-Series lines. In particular, HDR has been added to Hitachi’s flagship SK-UHD4000 UHD studio/field camera. This fully featured 4K-capable camera offers the best of all worlds: besides advanced 4K HDR operation, it has an industry-standard B4 ⅔-in. bayonet mount and ⅔-in. sensors, enabling operators to use their existing HDTV lenses.

The new HDR-capable broadcast cameras were demonstrated working alongside Hitachi’s OB-BOX and Mobile Transmission Vehicle. The demo showed how Hitachi can capture images in the highest resolution and transmit these pictures to base quickly and easily.

Also, HDR has been added to the Hitachi Z-HD6000 HDTV studio/field production-camera system, as well as to the company’s SK-HD1300 Series cameras, which capture 1920×1080-resolution video. A native 2K 1080p camera, it uses 2.6 megapixels and ⅔-in. 3MOS sensors and offers F11-standard sensitivity with .62 dB of video headroom and real-time lens aberration correction (RLAC).
