UK’s Rupp Arena Upgrades Video With Daktronics

Daktronics was once again selected to manufacture and install LED video display equipment at Rupp Arena of Lexington Center in Lexington, KY, home of University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball. The current installation of the integrated centerhung video displays completes the three-part super system which began with the corner video displays and 360-degree ribbon displays installed by Daktronics late in 2015.

unnamedThe centerhung video configuration features SMD LED video displays with tight 6-millimeter line spacing to provide excellent image clarity and contrast to every seat within the arena.

According to Bill Owen, Lexington Center CEO and President, “These state-of-the-art technology upgrades and new installations provided by Lexington Center Corporation will greatly enhance Rupp Arena’s sports and concert fans’ experiences. They will also lead to significant increases in revenue which is vital to the operations of Lexington Convention Center, Lexington Opera House, Triangle Park and Rupp Arena.”

The main displays each measure approximately 15 feet high by 25 feet wide and are connected by curved corner displays, each measuring 15 feet high by 6 feet wide. Above the main displays, a ring display circles the top of the configuration measuring 4 feet high by 126 feet long, and at the bottom of the centerhung, a ring display measures 3 feet high by 116 feet long.

The main displays are capable of variable content zoning which allows them to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones to show any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

The corner and ring displays can show supplemental content to the main displays including statistics and animations while also providing the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events.

“The Lexington Center technical staff has worked diligently and tirelessly over the last six months to keep this major project on track to ensure a seamless transition into the 2017 event season, kicking off with Big Blue Madness on October 14,” Owen continues. “We are excited to usher in a new decade of premier entertainment in this newly upgraded, legendary venue.”

“We’re excited to be continuing our long-standing partnership with Lexington Center and Rupp Arena to provide this state-of-the-art video centerhung system,” says Daryl Mihal, Daktronics regional manager. “All of the additions made this year are sure to add to the history and traditions of this exceptional facility. We’re looking forward to seeing the completed project impacting fans on game day.”

Additionally, Rupp Arena will be receiving six LED scorer’s tables which can be organized in any configuration along the sidelines or baselines as needed by the facility. Each display measures approximately 2 feet high by 6 feet wide and features 6-millimeter line spacing to show additional statistics and game information as well as activating sponsorships.

Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
