St. Louis Cardinals Score New Replay, Highlights Capabilities With EVS

EVS solutions at Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals, are giving production teams new replay and highlights capabilities with support for super slow motion cameras and editing while providing extended broadcast production efficiencies.

“Using our EVS system this season has been an eye-opener – its capabilities have increased our production efficiencies and value in more ways than we originally imagined,” says Craig Wilson, manager of production and creative services for the Cardinals. “In addition to upping our game day replay capabilities, we’ve dramatically streamlined our broadcast production workflows for digitizing and archiving, for transferring clips and for file conversion.”

unnamedAt the heart of the Busch Stadium control room, which underwent a state-of-the-art overhaul earlier this year, are eight-channel and six-channel XT3 production servers that feature flexible SD/HD, 1080p or 4K configuration. Operators use the IPDirector content management suite to import and export clips and build highlights, which are delivered to an Avid system through all-fiber connections. The  XTAccess transcode and transfer engine is also central to the new workflow.

While the new system enables to the team to provide enhanced replays and ultimately better fan viewing experiences, its dependability is critical. According to Wilson, “The system is bulletproof. With a full season and no issues now behind us, there’s no doubt the EVS can deliver – no matter what is thrown at us.”
