IDFA 2016: Leader Electronics To Demo LV5490 4K Test Instrument at HDR Seminar

Leader Electronics Europe heads to Amsterdam shortly to promote the capabilities of its LV5490 4K test instrument at a seminar on High Dynamic Range being held during the International Documentary Film-Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). The event is organised by the Dutch Association of Film & TV Professionals (Nederlandse Beroepsvereniging van Film- en televisiemakers).

leader_instruments_lv5490Leader will be represented by European regional development manager Kevin Salvidge and colleagues from Amsterdam-based channel partner Fofic BV. The seminar will be held at the Netherlands Film Academy in the city centre, November 22, 7 to 11 pm. Guest speakers will include Andreas Adler, Marcel Gonska and Philippe Vié.

“HDR delivers a highly impressive improvement in picture quality, more so than the comparison between 2D and 3D,” Kevin Salvidge comments. “One question the seminar will address is how long it will take before HDR transitions from being a premium offering to being the new industry norm. Terrestrial and satellite broadcasters are increasingly gearing to respond quickly to less conservative online content distributors. That reaction should accelerate the pace of advancement as 4K UHD HDR displays become widely affordable.”

“We will be explaining the importance of getting exposure correct during the initial shoot rather than relying on renormalisation during post. The Leader LV5490 is the ideal instrument for maintaining full HDR quality right through the production process, whether in the hands of cameramen, postproduction editors or lineup technicians.”

The Leader LV5490 offers 4K, UHD, 3G, HD and SD test and measurement features in a compact portable unit. The LV5490SER07 HDR option enables the LV5490 to measure both 4K and HD HDR in ITU.BT.2100 Hybrid Log Gamma, Dolby PQ or Sony SLOG-3 protocols.

Waveform, vector and picture display can all be viewed at the same time on the instrument’s front-panel 9 inch LCD monitor. The monitor is full 1920 x 1080 high-definition resolution with a wide viewing angle and high quality colour reproduction. 1920 x 1080 HD DVI and HD-SDI rasterized outputs are also provided to feed a larger monitor.

Simultaneous viewing of up to four SDI inputs is possible, including overlays. The size and location of individual channels can be adjusted on the display using a USB mouse so the user is not limited to fixed size quadrants. The LV5490 can also be controlled remotely using standard KVM tools. Additional options for the LV5490 include eye pattern with jitter measurements, digital audio I/O, Dolby decode, focus assist, CIE colour chart and 12G-SDI.
