Proximus To Upgrade ATEME-Based Video Headend for Broadcasters

Proximus, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Belgium, is upgrading its ATEME-based video headend with Titan full-software solution in order to reap the benefits of its new features and R&D enhancements. Ateme is a vendor of pure-software encoding/transcoding and multiplexing solutions that masters its codec roadmap. The TITAN software family delivers the highest video quality at minimum bitrates for cable, DTT and DTH. ATEME’s “building block” approach provides even more flexibility as software modules can be combined as needed: any input/output, any CODEC, any resolution, from an encoder to a video headend in a box.

“ATEME’s headend provides various resolutions, from low to UHD profile, as well as multiple codecs (H264/HEVC) within the same platform. This approach will lead to significant CAPEX and OPEX savings for Proximus,” says Thierry Demoor, head of applications and services platforms at Proximus. “But the argument of choice was definitely the simple upgrade path that ATEME offers with this future-proof solution. We can very easily process H.264 SD and HD from the same off-the-shelf hardware. Upcoming 4K-UHD phases with HDR, HFR, WCG will be efficiently activated, depending on the use case we want to address, and we can offer HD HEVC to customers who only benefit from SD today.”

“TITAN is the ideal solution servicing main and multi-screen applications. The solution also supports intelligent services which will enable Proximus to implement smart advertising,” says Christophe Deffontaines, sales director at ATEME.
