NAB 2017: Grass Valley Shows Live Production Solutions

With the increasing popularity of on-demand and digital streaming, there are few programs that can still attract droves of viewers in real-time. Live events, including sports, breaking news and award shows, have withstood the test of time-shifting and are imperative to broadcasters looking to attract engaged viewers. Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, provides solutions for every step of live production so that broadcast professionals have the flexibility they need to produce the seamless, high-quality live content viewers have come to expect. At NAB 2017, Grass Valley will introduce several new enhancements to its LIVE production portfolio including the new LDX 82 Series HD cameras and the LDX C86N native 4K compact cameras along with the new no-compromise K-Frame V-series production switcher frame.

“You only get one shot to capture a live event and that can add a great deal of stress to broadcasters’ already full plates,” says Neerav Shah, senior vice president of strategic marketing, Grass Valley. “Grass Valley’s live production solutions are comprehensively designed to handle customers’ emerging HDR, 4K UHD and IP plans while keeping them flexible and efficient.”

For increased flexibility and choices when it comes to HD cameras, Grass Valley recently debuted the LDX 82 Series, which includes four upgradable camera models, offering varying levels of operational flexibility to match every production need. Each model of the LDX 82 Series offers the best sensitivity in all HD formats, including 1080p, a wide color gamut and Grass Valley’s XDR (Extended Dynamic Range) operations with a full 15 F-stops (available by eLicense only). The LDX 82 Series is also available in compact versions, providing even more workflow and creative flexibility. A new compact format is now available for the native 4K LDX 86N Series, as well, enabling the highest quality native HD and native 4K capture in camera positions that are difficult to reach or impractical for camera operators.

Once the images are captured, Grass Valley switchers come into play as broadcasters and directors work to efficiently build the show. With the introduction of the GV Korona K-Frame V-series, Grass Valley now boasts a complete end-to-end switcher line for customers looking for flexible support for studio, mobile and venue environments. The new V-series frame is an ideal complement to the GV Korona switcher panel. Paired together, the 36×18 matrix supports SD, HD and 4K UHD in quad split and 2SI modes and can handle up to three licensed M/Es and two additional video processing engines (VPEs) for added keying and mixing power. At only 3RU, V-series fits in locations with limited space but requires no compromises on enterprise features and can be used with any Grass Valley switcher panel.

The K2 Dyno Replay System is also built to fit in any broadcast space with the smallest footprint per channel of any 4K replay solution when it comes to both space and power. Knowing that broadcasters’ needs are always evolving, K2 Dyno is flexible and scalable, supporting SD, 10-bit HD, high frame rate and 4K UHD with the ability to grow as channel count increases.

“When moving at the fast pace of a live broadcast it’s critical that broadcasters have reliable, flexible tools that ensure their production facility or truck is ready for anything,” says Shah. “Grass Valley helps broadcasters overcome complexity and design the exact system that meets their exact needs – both today and down the road.”
