Harmonic, Matrox Video, and Vizrt to Showcase End-to-End IP Workflow at NAB

At the 2017 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Vizrt, the world’s largest creator of software-based media solutions, will showcase its market leading Viz Engine, powered by the Matrox X.mio3 IP Multi-channel video I/O over 10GbE card, as a key component of an end to end playout and distribution demonstration hosted by Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure.

Illustrating how interoperable IP interconnectivity can deliver reliable, flexible, real-world workflows, the demonstration will feature live source inputs, complex graphics workflow, network time sync, low-latency monitoring, playout with full CIAB workflow and automation control, and broadcast encoding delivering emission-ready transport streams for terrestrial, satellite, cable and OTT delivery.

The Matrox X.mio3 IP card provides crucial hardware based IP packetization, onboard de-interlacing, scaling and compositing to free up CPU cycles, as well as the SMPTE 2022-6 I/O used in the Viz Engine™ real-time compositor. Viz Engine will be accepting SMPTE 2022-6 content output content from the Harmonic’s Spectrum™ media server, rendering and inserting complex graphics, creating full featured playout channels with high quality external graphics.

“This is a huge leap forward in terms of adoption of technology; Vizrt is the innovator in CG and graphics for broadcast and media, Matrox has been instrumental in the video-over-IP movement, and Harmonic offers a huge amount of the infrastructure to deliver said video,” according to Gerhard Lang, Chief Engineering Officer at Vizrt. “Being able to show that IP can enable interoperability between key production components from different manufacturers is a major milestone in the modernization and future-proofing of video workflows.”

“The challenge of transporting signals over IT networks has presented the broadcast industry with a major opportunity,” says Bart Spriester, senior vice president, video products, Harmonic. “IP technology— widely adopted in practically every aspect of the media and entertainment industry — now supports flexible and highly sophisticated uncompressed workflows. This opens up opportunities for migrating to common infrastructure and reimaging what is possible for the content delivery chain.”

The interoperability demonstration will be located at the Harmonic booth at SU1210. Vizrt is located at SL2416. Matrox will be at SL6316.

Harmonic, Matrox Video, and Vizrt are members of the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) a non-profit trade alliance promoting open standards for broadcast and media companies to move from SDI to IP protocols. AIMS members will be among those showing IP interoperability demonstrations at the IP showcase (N4824).
