NESN Launches NESNgo for Live In-Market Streaming of Red Sox Games

App, website offer authenticated 24/7 live stream of NESN linear programming

In the latest development in in-market streaming across Major League Baseball, NESN has launched NESNgo to provide fans live in-market streaming of all NESN-televised regular season Boston Red Sox games and other NESN programming.

“Live in-market streaming will provide Red Sox fans who are on the go a means to watch games anytime, anywhere they go, on virtually any device,” said Sean McGrail, NESN President and CEO. “For years, NESN has wanted to extend live streaming access to our viewers, so we couldn’t be more excited to launch NESNgo this season. This is a significant milestone in NESN history.”

Earlier this year when Major League Baseball reached a licensing agreement that finally relaxed restrictions on streaming of live games within a team’s designated market area (DMA), NESN was among the few independent regional sports networks that needed to develop their own streaming product to offer that programming. Now with NESNgo, live streaming is available throughout much of the network’s home territory (New England except Fairfield County, CT).

Content, including Red Sox games, are available on the NESNg app or NESNgo.com at no additional cost to those who already purchase a cable subscription that contains NESN as part of its package. Users can log in using their TV service credentials.

A key exception to the 24/7 live streaming rule is that live Boston Bruins games are currently not eligible for streaming as the NHL does not have regulations in place that allow for in-market live streaming anywhere in the United States.

The NESNgo app is available for download on mobile phones and tablets in both the iTunes (Apple) and Google Play (Android) stores.

According to an official release from NESN, some cable distributors are expected to enable NESN live streaming on their own “TV Everywhere” app and/or on their company website over the next few months.

As of publication, the TV service providers that are activated for authentication of NESN’s live streaming are Xfinity (Comcast), Cox Communications, MetroCast, PlayStation Vue and RCN, which collectively represent more than half of the cable subscribers in NESN’s home territory.
