VITAC Provides Real-Time Closed Captioning for Sports Broadcasters
The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome VITAC as a corporate sponsor. Based in Canonsburg, PA, VITAC is a leading provider of closed captioning, producing real-time captioning of more than 500,000 hours of live TV programming per year and creating verbatim, precisely timed captions for 31,000 hours of prerecorded programs per year.
“Many of our customers have mentioned SVG as an excellent source of information about sports broadcasting,” says VP, Marketing, Heather York. “We’re excited to be part of an organization that represents such a large portion of our business.”
VITAC was founded in 1986 by two men with one big idea: produce the best-quality real-time captions for viewers who rely on captions. More than 30 years later, that big idea is still the same, with more services and customers growing year after year.
In 2017, VITAC acquired Caption Colorado to become the largest provider of accessible-media services in the country. Services include live captioning in English and Spanish, offline captioning, multilanguage subtitling, video encoding, audio description, transcription, and audio dubbing.
The company’s largest line of business is real-time captioning, specifically for news and sports programming. The company has captioned the past four Olympics, including all television and online coverage, and four of the past five Super Bowls. Employee captioners are responsible for captions on all Comcast and ROOT Sports networks, most regional Fox networks, and many collegiate football channels.
In 2015, VITAC expanded its sports expertise to event centers, offering in-stadium captioning for colleges, universities, and professional teams.
