Thailand’s TOT Taps ATEME Kyrion Encoders, Decoders to Deliver 4K-UHD Contribution Channels Over IP
TOT (Telephone Organization of Thailand) has deployed ATEME’s Kyrion encoders and decoders to deliver nine 4K-UHD contribution channels over IP. ATEME has already been covering a large part of TOT’s network, but this is the first time the company has used ATEME’s 4K-UHD contribution technology to add value to its primary distribution offer. It allows TOT to deliver high video quality at an extremely low latency of 130ms.
Based on the ATEME fifth generation STREAM compression engine, the Kyrion encoder/decoder provides the best baseband video quality at minimum bitrates. This solution has been designed for contribution over satellite and IP networks, with added value features such as ultra-fast-boot, ultra-low latency, and ABR output. The ATEME Kyrion offers a software-upgradable HEVC encoding option to support UHD video streaming as well as legacy MPEG2 to H264 compressions.
“Video quality has always been a hallmark of ATEME’s strategy to provide customers with exceptional video quality for all broadcast standards and resolutions up to 4K, “says Xiao Zhang, sales manager for APAC region at ATEME. “By choosing our Kyrion pair, TOT acquires the best contribution solution that is fully upgradeable and future proof. The deployed system is able to embed new features on existing platforms which also increases the company’s return on investment.”
“ATEME’s encoding technology was proven to be the best option available on the market.” says Saroj Phitapong, chief engineer of TOT. “It gives us the ability to switch from a regular HD feed to a high quality 4K feed according to our needs by simply activating a license. Their unparalleled video quality at ultra-low latency, the ability to support HEVC via a simple software update and the reliability of their Kyrion line of products offers TOT flexibility and performance while improving operational orchestration, productivity and efficiency.”
