Nevion Highlights Influence of IP Technology in Industry Barometer Report

Nevion has highlighted the impact that IP technology is continuing to have on the future of the broadcast industry in a recently published, social-media-sourced barometer report.

Olivier Suard – Nevion

The barometer, entitled ‘The future of broadcast — paving the way to virtualized production’, confirms that IP is making in-roads into various parts of live production. Comments and contributions from industry experts were collated across various social media platforms to gauge the temperature of the industry and provide valuable insights.

The barometer also found that standards play a significant role not only in terms of interoperability, but also in providing confidence in the adoption of IP technology. Several broadcast hot topics are touched upon, including the move towards an entirely internet protocol (IP)-based future and the possibility of widespread virtualization.

“While we have seen IP technology make significant inroads in the broadcast industry in 2017, there are still hurdles that many businesses have to overcome, particularly around integration,” says Olivier Suard, VP Marketing, Nevion. “However, as this barometer report makes clear, standards such as SMPTE 2110 — which is being championed by us as part of the AIMS Alliance — will help to allow broadcasters to choose best of breed solutions and equipment from any vendor they choose, preventing them from becoming ‘locked-in’ with proprietary technology. By gauging the opinions of industry experts across various social media platforms, our barometer provides an interesting insight into what lies ahead for broadcasters, while weighing up both the benefits and challenges of a fully virtualized future.”
