PGA TOUR Re-ups Its Live Streaming Deal with Twitter

PGA TOUR LIVE on Twitter will broadcast 31 tournaments in 2018, continue to play with 360 video

Following what its calling a “successful first year,” the PGA TOUR has renewed its annual agreement to have the social media giant Twitter serve exclusive global online distributor of 31 tournaments during the 2017-18 season.

Similarly to this year, PGA TOUR plans to stream the first 60-90 minutes of the early Thursday and Friday morning sessions being broadcast to the PGA TOUR LIVE’s OTT subscription service.

“We have seen tremendous growth of PGA TOUR LIVE during our streaming partnership with Twitter,” said Rick Anderson, Chief Media Officer of the PGA TOUR. “The positive feedback from our fans was resounding following the initial year of streaming PGA TOUR LIVE to Twitter’s global audience. We look forward to continuing the relationship to reach new audiences and driving new value for our advertisers.”

The organization will also continue to try out live 360-degree video on the social media platform. Expounding upon the recent VR deal with Intel, Twitter viewers will get immersive looks into spots like the 16th hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, the 17th hole at The Players Championship, and select locations at The President’s Cup.

The renewed deal will begin with the CareerBuilder Challenge on January 18 and continue through to the TOUR Championship in September 2018. The live coverage will be available globally to Twitter’s logged-in and logged-out audience and can be found at PGATourLive.twitter.com and via @PGATOUR.
