Wide-ranging SVG-led panel discussion covers VR, OTT, 4K, and HDR

The 2017 collaboration between Sportel and the Sports Video Group put the focus on the future of technology in a conversation moderated by SVG Executive Director, Editorial, Ken Kerschbaumer and featuring Ali Russell, chief marketing officer, FIA Formula E, and Alex Rice, head of production, Perform Group.

SVG’s Ken Kerschbaumer (left) discussed OTT and other new technologies with Alex Rice of Perform Group (center) and Ali Russell of Formula E.

The discussion took a broad look at the technology and distribution landscape and included VR, OTT services, 4K, and HDR. These maturing technologies will impact rightsholders and production professionals across the board, demanding a renewed commitment to next-generation production technologies, workflows, and distribution models.

“The challenge facing everyone is not only how to embrace a new technology but whether it should be embraced at all,” said Kerschbaumer. “More than ever, rightsholders and distributors are feeling the pressure to embrace new technologies, which can often be costly, without fully developing a use case or a business plan.”
