LiveU MultiPoint Delivers Cost-Effective, Streamlined Workflow to Networks, Local News Organizations

Advanced Digital Media is finding success with its production subscription model, BlueRoomStream, that brings legislative news and activities from the State Capitol located in Springfield to 85% of the television stations in Illinois and news networks – Fox, CNN, and MSNBC. The digital TV production and streaming company has been using LiveU technology to provide C-Span-like coverage of the Illinois Legislature to local affiliates and national news networks.

Illinois House Chamber

Advanced Digital Media has been using a LiveU encoder, coupled with a LiveU MultiPoint distribution platform and a dedicated server, to give affiliates a competitive edge and drive the live feeds to multiple destinations simultaneously. The production company uses LiveU almost daily to do network shows such as State of the Union on CNN and Morning Joe on MSNBC and Fox Business.

“LiveU has given us the ability to reach our affiliates with significantly higher quality and faster workflow at the stations. We can be on the air in minutes,” says Tony J. Yuscius, President of Advanced Digital Media, Inc.

Competitive Edge Bringing Breaking News to Affiliates
During a House “Special Session” a couple of months ago, a woman threw an unknown powder substance into the Governor’s office, the Lt. Governor’s office and into the House chamber. The State Capitol Police locked down the entire Capitol building with legislators kept in the chamber along with media crews.

“We had the ability to use LiveU to send out a switched HD feed to broadcasters across the state and nationally in literally under a minute. In fact, it took longer to call the stations on the phone than it took to establish the LiveU connection. Stations went live with breaking coverage as millions watched hazmat crews in yellow hazmat gear go into the Governor’s office,” says Yuscius. “It turned out that the woman was a ‘spiritual healer’ and the substance was bath salts but at the time no one knew that.” Because the crew was in-house, Advanced Digital Media was able to get the developing news out to its affiliate clients quickly.

First Choice for Live Coverage
The production company is currently in negotiations with several national broadcasters to host a weekly national show out of Springfield, Illinois. “We couldn’t even begin to put this deal together without the reliability of LiveU and the team that stands behind it,” notes Yuscius. “When the networks hear that we are using LiveU, we generate more opportunities due to the image quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the solution. I personally work with the satellite desks at every national broadcasting company and when offered the choice of LiveU or a competitor. LiveU is the choice.”

Prior to incorporating a LiveU workflow, the production company delivered content to broadcasters via the web using a different platform. The crew delivered usable video, but it was a slow and awkward workflow for stations. The content had to be converted from web-based to HD-SDI video by using scan convertors. This proved to be clunky in a world where news needs to be delivered quickly and efficiently.

“MultiPoint is being used more and more and our major network clients prefer LiveU from a reliability and image quality standpoint,” adds Yuscius.
