DraftKings Takes First Step In Offering Digital Streaming of Live Sports

The sports-tech and media entertainment company DraftKings has announced it is testing the waters in the streaming of live sports through an expanded partnership with EuroLeague Basketball. Customers will be able to stream select Turkish Airlines EuroLeague basketball games directly through their DraftKings mobile app and seamlessly toggle between fantasy contests and live content.

DraftKings CEO Jason Robins announces the company will begin live-streaming European professional basketball through its partnership with EuroLeague Basketball at the Web Summit conference in Lisbon, Portugal.

“Our goal is to become the one-stop destination and mobile companion for sports fans globally. Adding a live streaming component allows us to provide the best and most seamless product for our customers,” says Jason Robins, Co-Founder and CEO of DraftKings. “This is what the future of sports looks like.”

The announcement comes on the heels of a series of other milestones for the company, including: expanding into five new countries, introducing new Daily Fantasy Sport game variants, beefing up the executive team with new hires, and a significant investment in original content.

By the first quarter of 2018, DraftKings hopes to offer US and Canadian-based customers the opportunity to live-stream EuroLeague games on the DraftKings app. Customers will be able to stream one free game per week or watch multiple games by playing in a $3 and above DraftKings contest. DraftKings will also create original content to support the EuroLeague product, enhancing the offering for fans.

“We are proud to be breaking new ground with such a forward-thinking partner as DraftKings,” says Jordi Bertomeu, EuroLeague Basketball President and CEO. “Combining fantasy with live-streamed games is a perfect match, not only for the countless passionate EuroLeague fans we have already, but for the many new ones who will now discover our unique brand of basketball through DraftKings.”

For the first time, EuroLeague contests will be available globally on DraftKings starting Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Customers will be able to play the classic salary cap format basketball game by selecting 6 players according to the specified positions with the same scoring as the classic NBA game on DraftKings.
