2017-18 College Basketball Preview: CBS Sports Adds More Analytics to Graphics Package

Network begins its production slate with a Big Ten matchup between Indiana and Michigan on Dec. 2

CBS Sports returns to the court for the 2017-18 college basketball season, with a 42-game schedule that boasts all four of the 2017 Final Four teams, the country’s top teams and rivalries, and much more. The network’s season begins on Saturday Dec. 2, with a Big Ten showdown between Indiana and Michigan.

To cover college basketball from coast to coast, CBS Sports will roll out a range of trucks from F&F Productions and Game Creek Video, including F&F GTX-17, F&F GTX-16, and Game Creek River Hawk. For its A-game coverage, CBS Sports will deploy 13-14 cameras, with an 8xX super-slo-mo camera and center-court mini handheld camera in its arsenal.

This season, CBS Sports plans to add more analytics to its graphics and integrate more of its partnership with Synergy Sports into its basketball broadcasts, building on its success in its football telecasts. In addition, the network plans to increase the use of its ChyronHego Paint capabilities, using that technology for replays and telestration with virtual graphics for selected games.

“We are excited to produce more games on CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network than ever before,” says Steve Karasik, VP, remote production, CBS Sports. “We continue to incorporate new elements into our telecasts, including an increase in the use of our ChyronHego Paint unit and utilizing more analytics in our graphics, to ensure viewers are experiencing the best college basketball has to offer. We look forward to the 2017-18 season and highlighting the many different storylines college basketball presents as we lead into the NCAA Tournament this March.”

CBS Sports Network’s slate of 234 games tips off tomorrow night with the fourth-annual “Veterans Classic at the U.S. Naval Academy” featuring Alabama vs. Memphis at 6:30 p.m. ET and Pittsburgh vs. Navy at 9:00 p.m.
