Monumental Sports Network Launches Live-stream of High School Hockey Showcase

This Winter, Monumental Sports Network – the first-ever direct-to-fan digital regional sports network – launches its inaugural season of live D.C.-metro area high school hockey coverage. Powered by Giant, Perdue and Dole, the partnership – “The Giant High School Hockey Showcase Presented by Perdue and Dole” – offers fans live access to more than 40 “must-watch” games of the season through the Network’s app and website, highlighting the District’s status as one of the fastest growing markets for youth hockey in the country.

Live coverage debuted last week with defending regional champion Gonzaga taking on Calvert Hall, in a rematch of their thrilling Mid-Atlantic Prep Hockey League (MAPHL) title game last season. The next showcase game will be on Friday, December 8 with Northern Virginia rivals Bishop O’Connell and Flint Hill facing off at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Monumental Sports Network’s grassroots high school programming features a diverse roster of the best teams and events nationwide, including top-quality production for live and on-demand viewing. This season’s coverage will spotlight the DMV’s top-ranked teams, fiercest rivalries and star-studded lineups including:

  • Teams from all of the region’s major conferences represented: MAPHL, Maryland Scholastic Hockey League, Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Hockey League, Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League, Capital Scholastic Hockey League and Junior Women’s Hockey League.
  • Motion-detecting cameras utilized for select games at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, powered by automated video production technology Keemotion, allowing the Network to simplify the production process while maintaining high-quality livestream coverage.
  • Games “on the road” broadcasted from the Washington Capitals’ regional rink partners including Fort Dupont Ice Arena, Gardens Ice House, Rockville Ice Arena, Cabin John Ice Rink and Prince William Ice Center.
  • Select game highlights shared on the Monumental Hockey Hub – a brand-new, schedule-and-stats platform managed by the Capitals’ Youth Development group featuring every high school league in the region.
  • Curated selection of games available to watch on Facebook Live.

“The last 20 years has seen the D.C.-area turn into one of the nation’s largest high school hockey hotbeds,” says Dan Shanoff, Senior Director of content and programming at Monumental Sports Network. “Monumental Sports Network is thrilled to elevate these incredibly talented teams and enthusiastic high school communities.”

tudents, families, school alumni and fans who just like watching the best high school sports the DMV has to offer can catch all the live, all-access and on-demand action through the Monumental Sports Network’s apps through mobile platforms and streaming services including iOS, Android, RoKu, FireTV, Apple TV, XBox One and more. Subscribers will enjoy year-round live coverage as part of the Network’s commitment to delivering unprecedented regional high school sports coverage on-the-go, including 120+ basketball, hockey and lacrosse games in 2017 – with even more planned for the remaining 2017 – 2018 school year.

“We are excited to be partnering with Monumental Sports Network to  bring local residents broadcast of D.C.-metro area high school hockey games this season,” says Gordon Reid, President, Giant Food of Landover, MD. “Giant is proud to support activities that promote active and healthy youth in our community and we look forward to tuning into coverage this season.”

“Dole is honored to be a title sponsor of this inaugural season of high school hockey broadcast coverage in the D.C. area,” says Rob Russo, VP of Sales, Dole Fresh Vegetables. “At Dole, our focus is on helping kids and their families get proper nutrition, nutrition education and fitness in their lives, and promoting youth hockey to champion a healthy community is a program in which we are excited to share.”
