Cloudian’s New HyperStore 7 Unifies Multiple Clouds, On-Premise Storage for M&E Organizations
Cloudian has announced a new version of its HyperStore platform which integrates data management capabilities that bridge traditional and cloud native environments, and object and file storage types. This scale-out platform empowers users to manage their on-premises and cloud storage systems around the globe as a single, unified storage pool.
The HyperStore 7 object storage platform features a scale-out architecture that provides a single management view and a single set of APIs and tools for managing data no matter where it resides, allowing IT managers to fully use the elastic resources of the cloud to scale on demand.
Multiple HyperStore 7 controllers form clusters, spanning on-premises and cloud environments, to increase performance and availability. The multi-controller architecture also boosts efficiency by allowing data to be routed between various clouds and on-premises locations via the most direct path available.
Key features of HyperStore 7 include:
- Multi-cloud access via a common API: Manage all cloud and on-premises storage assets, including Amazon AWS, Google GCP, and Microsoft Azure via a common API
- Merge Files and Objects: Combine file and object management to a single namespace, accessed via SMB (CIFS) / NFS protocols and the S3 API
- Scale-out architecture: Multiple distributed controllers can manage a single namespace across on-premises and cloud environments for performance scaling, increased availability and simplified data access
- Converged Data Access: Permits data stored as files to be retrieved as objects, or vice versa, providing full data interchangeability
Managing data across a mix of on-premises and cloud storage systems has proven vexing for several reasons. Most cloud storage providers use their own unique APIs, making it impossible to optimize workloads across clouds, and eliminating the possibility of using multiple clouds for their unique features, geo-coverage, and costs.
HyperStore 7 overcomes this by managing all data within a single global namespace, using a single language. It allows users to scale dynamically by adding storage capacity on-premises or in multiple clouds, and managing all storage through a common interface and a single set of APIs. At the same time, it provides data portability across the entire namespace, on-prem and in the cloud, while keeping all files and object data in their native formats.
HyperStore 7 also provides S3 API object tagging, enabling unique tags to help identify specific data attributes. A single global view of data and metadata allows users to search across all domains to identify where data is located. The system offers access control for security, and data lifecycle management to automatically transition data to another storage class or to delete expired data.
“To effectively manage data across platforms and around the globe, IT managers need solutions that scale in every dimension, spanning on-premises and cloud storage, multiple geographies, and both files and objects,” said Michael Tso, CEO of Cloudian. “HyperStore 7 is the first to combine a scale-out architecture – with clustered storage controllers both on-prem and in the cloud – with file and object data types, to create a genuinely unified storage environment.”
HyperStore 7 controllers can run both on-premises and in public cloud environments including Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and Google GCP. All data tiered to clouds is stored in its native format for direct access via cloud-based applications.
For workflows that require a tape-based archive, HyperStore 7 can also tier to the Spectra Logic BlackPearl converged storage system, an approach often used to deliver compliance with the SEC 17-4A specification or as insurance against a ransomware attack.
The HyperStore 7 platform is available now as software-defined-storage and as a fully-supported appliance with integrated capacities ranging from 48TB to 840TB per device. The software can be deployed both on-premises and in the cloud. Pricing for fully configured appliances, with storage, start under ½ cent per GB/month. Cloudian HyperFile integrates with HyperStore 7 to provide file services that are fully interoperable with SMB (CIFS) and NFS protocols.
