Super Bowl LII

The SVG Podcast: Super Bowl Special With NFL Media’s Dave Shaw (Plus Day 1 of Our Onsite Audio Diary)

From Opening Night to the Super Sunday postgame show, the NFL tech vet talks the challenges and opportunities at Super Bowl

Super Bowl Week in Minneapolis is heating up (not literally, unfortunately), with the big game just days away. From Radio Row to U.S. Bank Stadium, SVG is on the scene covering all the video production and tech happenings surrounding Super Bowl LII.

Beginning Thursday, SVG will bring you daily episodes of The SVG Podcast as Chief Editor Jason Dachman and Director of Digital Brandon Costa give you the inside scoop on everything they are seeing and the big themes they are hearing from the big video-production players here in the Twin Cities.

In addition, each episode will feature an in-depth interview with a major executive or intriguing personality dissecting their team’s onsite Super Bowl efforts and offering opinions on larger trends facing the sports-media industry.

In today’s episode of the show, Jason and Brandon discuss what’s going on at Radio Row at Mall of America, including an impressive dual-studio setup from the New England Patriots and a slick pop-up studio set being deployed by ESPN for its Golic and Wingo show.

Brandon also catches up with Dave Shaw, VP, production, NFL Media, to discuss everything that NFL Network is up to at Super Bowl LII. Shaw discusses the philosophy behind why the company chose to have multiple smaller sets throughout the Twin Cities as opposed to erecting one massive set; he also shares how his team is battling the frigid temperatures with crews and gear working outside in the elements.

The SVG Podcast is for the sports-video–production professional looking to keep up with the latest in sports-video–production operations and technology. The program features interviews with some of the biggest, most influential names in the sports-video business talking trends and topics that are making an impact on the industry.
