Chris Calcinari Named SVP, Remote Production Operations, ESPN and ABC Sports
He is responsible for oversight of both field and studio operations
Christopher Calcinari has been promoted to SVP, ESPN and ABC Sports Remote Production Operations. Having served as VP, ESPN and ABC Sports Remote Production Operations, since 2008, he has been instrumental in driving ESPN’s industry-leading event productions.
Jodi Markley, EVP, content operations and creative services, ESPN and ABC Sports, says that Calcinari has had an impact on the ESPN remote-operations team and its innovative spirit, can-do attitude, and creativity: “His ability to seamlessly oversee thousands of event productions each year, as well as all our studio operations from locations around the country, including the recently launched Seaport studio in Manhattan, is remarkable.”
Calcinari and his nearly 500-member team manage the budget, technical and logistics planning, onsite operations, and remote transmission for thousands of events yearly across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3, ESPN+, SEC Network, Longhorn Network, ESPN International, and ESPN on ABC.
Calcinari has spent 28 years with ESPN, providing leadership for remote studios, field operations, remote traffic, crewing, and mobile-unit operations. He has direct oversight of the planning and execution for all production operations in the field and is responsible for ESPN’s studio operations in Washington; Austin, TX; Miami; Coral Gables, FL; and New York City.
One of his most recent achievements was the planning and launch of ESPN’s South Street Seaport studios in Lower Manhattan; the 21,000-sq.-ft., state-of-the-art, 1080p technical facility houses two television studios, a radio/podcast studio, and technical and support space for more than 70 technicians and production staff.
