Chilefilms Serves South American Sports Broadcasters With OB Vans, Studio Services

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome Chilefilms as a mobile/integrator sponsor. Based in Santiago, Chile, Chilefilms provides OB van and studio TV production, satellite content distribution (CinecolorSat), and postproduction (Cinecolor Digital) services.

The company has been in the audiovisual services market for nearly 30 years, providing superb services for national and international customers, including ESPN, Fox Sports, PSSI, TXVISION, TyC, GLOBO, CDF, TVN, CH13, CHV, and MEGA.

Chilefilms was founded in 1942 as a government film production company and, in 1990, was privatized and transformed into a service provider company. Today, Chilefilms runs different business areas to serve specific markets, and is part of the Cinecolor Group in Latin America.

Chilefilms operates seven sound stages and seven OB vans, plus an MCR system to deliver live-production services on stage. Each of the OB vans can run up to 14 HD Ikegami/Sony Cameras, 20 100X Canon/Fujinon lenses, Vizrt graphics, Sony/Ross switchers, EVS reply, Studer sound mixing, and Riedel communications. Chilefilms can also provide uplink services with its versatile and powerful contribution 1+1 C-Band DSNG and two fly-away configurations (one in C-Band, the other in Ku-Band).

The company boasts more than 25 years producing live events for the industry, and is recognized for its expertise in the field. Chilefilms was a key ally to SKY TV when they implemented DTH in South America (1998), delivering up to 120 National Soccer League games per year. Today, the copyright holder is CDF and the amount of games transmitted live for this championship has been increased up to 240 per year.

All major events broadcast from Chile to the world have been connected in some way to Chilefilms, including the FIFA World Cup qualifications, Copa America, Copa Conmebol Sud Americana, Copa Conmebol Libertadores, UFC, Formula-E, Festival de Viña del Mar (CHV / TNT), Lolapalooza, and many concerts and government events.

Chilefilms has its own Teleport operating over Intelsat IS-14, where CinecolorSat operates its digital content distribution network with up to 1,500 cinemas. On this platform, the company delivers not just conventional DCP movies, but also live “alternative content” to cinemas such as UEFA Champions League, Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup, and now Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“We wanted to join SVG to share experiences and to open a door to the world,” says Commercial Manager Gonzalo Marambio. “Recently, we solved a complicated situation when PSSI (Keith Valeri) contracted us for uplink the UFC fights made in last May in Santiago. The original production truck could not cross customs in Brazil and Argentina and, with one day ahead of the show, we were able to set it up and deliver it to the domestic market in the US.”

“We have been partners on the success of our customers and we will keep that philosophy for the coming years,” says Managing Director Juan Carlos Arriagada. “We have very skilled teams and the technology we use is a worldwide standard, so SVG gives us the opportunity and the privilege to exchange knowledge and experiences with people who do the same activity as us in other parts of the world.”
