Telemundo Deportes Highlights Coverage Plans for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Following the Final Draw, Telemundo Deportes unveils its initial coverage plans for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup France taking place next June 7-July 7. As the exclusive Spanish-language home of the tournament, Telemundo Deportes will present all 52 matches live on Telemundo, Universo, and the Telemundo Deportes and NBC Sports apps. Telemundo Deportes will offer the biggest multimedia coverage in Spanish-language media history with more matches on linear television than ever before, streaming of all matches, and extensive coverage on digital and social media.

“With the Draw results, we look to finalize our plans to bring the most extensive Spanish-language multimedia coverage ever presented around the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” says Ray Warren, President of Telemundo Deportes. “Our coverage will follow the action on the field and incorporate in-depth analysis featuring renowned soccer stars and compelling storytelling across all platforms highlighting the best stories around the tournament.”

Telemundo Deportes’ team of commentators, led by the voice of soccer in America and five-time Emmy award winner, Andrés Cantor will be part of the coverage, with Ana Jurka serving as the main host of the event in Paris. Coverage will also include the return of Viviana Vila to Telemundo after making history this past summer, as the first women to ever provide match commentary for a FIFA Men’s World Cup in Spanish. In addition, the network’s soccer experts Miguel Gurwitz, Carlos Hermosillo, Sammy Sadovnik, Copan Alvarez, and Manuel Sol will participate in the coverage. Telemundo Deportes’ on-air team will be supplemented by a renowned group of iconic women’s soccer personalities to be announced in the near future.

Telemundo will be covering all angles of the event with a dedicated production team based in Paris and a host position featuring views from the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. Select matches, including the opening match, semi-finals, and Final will be produced onsite with commentators calling the action from the respective stadiums. Telemundo will also have dedicated crews following the teams with special emphasis on the U.S. Women’s National Team.

To complement the live action coverage with analysis and the latest news around the event, Telemundo Deportes’ game broadcasts will feature analysis and preview prior to kickoff of each and every match. The day will wrap up with a special, extended 60-minute edition of Titulares y Más, Telemundo’s late-night sports and entertainment show that will air in its extended format throughout the duration of the tournament. The show will highlight the best of the day and the main storylines ahead of the next series of matches.

In addition, Telemundo Deportes will present three special 60-minute shows: On Opening Day, June 7, the commentary team will preview the tournament and share the best storylines to follow; on July 7, there will be an extended preview of the Final Match; and a special show highlighting the trophy presentation.

Telemundo’s regular daily programming will supplement the coverage covering all angles of the tournament.

On the digital front, all 52 matches, in addition to the pre-game programming, will stream live via the Telemundo Deportes and NBC Sports apps. Telemundo Deportes’ digital platforms will also supplement the television coverage with additional, exclusive short- and long-form content on TelemundoDeportes.com and social media platforms that highlights the tournament, players, teams, stats, match highlights, host cities, and the culture of France.

Telemundo Deportes’ marketing will roll out an aggressive campaign to promote the “summer of soccer” on Telemundo, leveraging the concurrent coverage of FIFA Women’s World Cup and Copa America 2019, and the more than 80 matches to be played over 38 days in two continents and featuring the best players in the world. The marketing efforts will incorporate on and off-channel, digital and cross promotion across NBCUniversal platforms.
