Object Matrix Supplies 768TB of Storage to Last Week Tonight

Object Matrix has provided 768TB of its MatrixStore object storage platform to the critically acclaimed American talk show Last Week Tonight.

Hosted by comedian John Oliver, the HBO series takes a look at news, politics, and current affairs and is watched by millions of viewers on a weekly basis. Last Week Tonight required an intelligent storage platform that was able to securely manage its growing archive while also ensuring clips, previous shows, and out-takes discoverable at all times. By implementing a private cloud storage platform Last Week Tonight has greater flexibility, more content protection, wider sharing options and a future roadmap to adding more workflows be they on premises, off-premises or in the public cloud.

MatrixStore is the media focused hybrid cloud solution that is designed to meet the challenges faced by media organizations that log, share, and archive video content. Its tight integrations and automated workflows ensure Last Week Tonight will benefit from operational efficiencies and the option of elastic scale brought from hybrid environments.

“As our archive continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly apparent that we needed to better preserve that content while making it instantly accessible,” comments Elliott Brown, Director of IT, Last Week Tonight. “MatrixStore was an attractive solution for us, firstly because it is built for media workflows, but also because of the flexibility and scalability, it affords whilst enabling everything we were looking for in a secure yet accessible archive.

CineSys Oceana was tasked by Last Week Tonight with finding and implementing a solution that meets the increasing demand. Together, they concluded that the platform should be based on a secure object storage platform that would preserve its valuable content through its lifespan with the option of integrating further disaster recovery workflows in the future.

“Last Week Tonight is an extremely popular talk show that relies on having instant access to a large archive of clips. MatrixStore was built on the premise to provide that access whilst protecting the data and metadata at the highest levels,” adds Nick Pearce-Tomenius, Sales and Marketing Director, Object Matrix. “We are extremely proud to be working with this highly acclaimed HBO show as it further demonstrates that we, Object Matrix, have the solutions, services, and expertise to help broadcasters move to private, or hybrid, cloud storage technology thus enabling them to benefit operationally and thus financially.”

The solution consists of 768TB MatrixStore storage with access to the content provided by standard interfaces and the Vision application. The clusters are installed in one location with plans to expand in the future.
