2019 HPA Tech Retreat: G&D To Present New KVM Matrix System for KVM-over-IP
Every year, the HPA Tech Retreat in Palm Desert, CA, serves as an important meeting point for post production professionals and companies engaged in the creation, management, and dissemination of content. KVM manufacturers Guntermann & Drunck will again be exhibiting at the HPA Tech Retreat from 11 – 15 February 2019 and will be presenting their new KVM matrix system for KVM-over-IP.
KVM systems play a key role in post production since they allow the separation of computers and users. They help relocate the high-performance machines from production desks to central equipment rooms. When broadcast houses grow, their IT naturally grows as well. Therefore, post producers need powerful computers to perform the many complex tasks of image and sound processing. But high-performance computers for editing images require powerful processors causing noise and heat emissions. Sooner or later, growing IT infrastructures will make it necessary to remove high-performance computers from the production area and bundle and centralize them. G&D KVM systems help post producers operate their computers remotely, yet in real time and at full performance. The distance between the technical room and the production area is bridged using dedicated CAT cabling, fiber optic cables, or IP structures. As part of the HPA Tech Retreat, G&D will exhibit their new matrix system for KVM-over-IP and give participants a live demonstration.
Real 4K Over IP and Optimum Video Quality
The new ControlCenter-IP matrix system enables the switching of all connected computer and user modules over IP thus enhancing user-friendliness and flexibility. Operators benefit from the full performance of their computers even when accessing them. While the network infrastructure takes over the transport of KVM-over-IP using network switches and routers, the ControlCenter-IP contributes the logic. Transmission takes place compressed via CAT cabling or optical fibers via standard IP-based networks on layer 3, with a data transmission rate of up to 1 Gbit/s per line.
Being able to use standard network components makes G&D’s KVM-over-IP particularly interesting because existing IT installations can be scaled more easily, flexibly and cost-effectively. Almost all components are plug & play devices, making it even easier and more comfortable to operate the system. The ControlCenter-IP system provides pixel-perfect images and uses the in-house compression technology HDIP. Combining this central matrix unit with G&D’s high-performance IP extenders enables lossless transmission of video signals with resolutions up to 4K at 60 Hz. With the help of versatile IP extenders, G&D support a wide range of different video signals and resolutions.
