NBA G League Taps Dailymotion as Video-Player Provider, Distribution Partner

VOD content to be shared from more than 1,300 games over the next two seasons on the platform

The NBA G League has a new home. The official minor league of the NBA has struck a deal with Dailymotion under which the video-streaming and sharing platform will serve both as the primary video player for all video content on G League digital properties and as a distribution partner for its content.

In addition to providing the technology for the video player for league and team websites and other digital platforms, Dailymotion will distribute VOD content from more than 1,300 G League games over the course of two seasons.

“While the NBA G League focuses on rising athletes, they’re also developing new regional markets and expanding their viewership globally, specifically among a growing digital audience,” says Jolie Roberts, Head of U.S. Sports Partnerships & Content Development, Dailymotion. “As Dailymotion continues to expand our footprint in the U.S. sports market, we’re focused on developing our content offering in well-known and niche sports verticals alike. We’re excited to support NBA G League and help bring their content to new audiences through the Dailymotion network and proprietary player technology.”

According to an official release, Dailymotion says the G League will reach an audience of 250 million sports fans worldwide (excluding China) on the platform, thanks to its “hyper-personalized recommendation engine.”

“As the NBA G League gets closer to achieving its goal of a 30-team league, the attention that the league is receiving from coaches, players, team executives, and, most important, basketball fans continues to reach new heights,” said NBA G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim in the release. “Through this new partnership with Dailymotion and its commitment to providing premium content to its audiences, the NBA G League will be able to expand its footprint both domestically and around the globe.”

Dailymotion has grown exponentially over the past couple of years as it has re-prioritized its goals. According to the company, it has increased its premium audience 52% through partnerships with Stadium, CBS, and Fox Deportes. This new deal with the NBA G League is another step in the growth of its sports portfolio.

“At Dailymotion, we’re dedicated to surfacing premium, relevant content from prominent global partners like NBA G League,” Dailymotion Chairman/CEO Maxime Saada said. “We’re excited to launch this partnership and support NBA G League as they continue to drive awareness and expand their reach to new audiences globally.”
